It’s trashy.

I guess you did not read the subject of this thread.

When I buy shrimp in the Charleston area, I buy it off the boat. It's a shame you have to do that nowadays because you can't trust anybody. Maybe if a few people started going to jail for lying, at least the labeling would be honest.

Restaurants exist to make money.

Perhaps domestic suppliers should realize they’re being undercut on price if they care about market share in the restaurant industry.

If they can find an end around to accept EBT, they’ll be a fortune 20 company overnight

That's all fine and dandy, but don't commit fraud by putting "local" on the menu or having the waitress tell people it's local.

He better pay his wait staff 25/hr to make up for not getting tipped.

I did read it I’m wondering if you did.
you said you won’t eat imported shrimp and you already knew they used it. So what’s the other reason you avoid red lobster?

Last time I ate at Red Lobster it wasn’t that bad. I have better local options, but I also have worse options.

India crawfish sounds worse than Chinese crawfish. Sewage crawfish, gross. And I’ll never understand the draw of boil restaurants.

They do realize it. Foreign shrimp is so much cheaper now that even restaurants on the MS gulf coast (and I would guess other coastal areas) are using it instead what's right in their back yard.

At one time, RL had 9 people that owned all of the RL stock. One of them was a friend of mine. He was a brilliant guy, and as polished a human being as you could ever hope to meet. He saw bad things coming, was overruled, and bailed from RL.

Very aggravating and makes it to where you have to ask. They are not supposed to lie to you about it if asked directly.

I also wonder if charging higher prices for domestic shrimp is driving customers away. I'd be willing to pay more knowing that's what I'm getting.

What do you think they were using before this in fact what do you think any chain restaurant uses in their seafood dishes?

There is an inconvenient truth wrapped up in all of this. We harvest about 1/3 of a billion pounds of shrimp each year from our waters, but consume roughly 4 times that. I do not know it for a fact, but I would bet we can't 4X our harvest and remain sustainable.

This does not give places an excuse to lie.

Are the laws against this enforced?

I know Louisiana has them but don’t know which part of the government is in charge of enforcing it.

Well it's restaurants that are usually licensed and health inspections "labeling" issues

I imagine that different states leave code enforcement up to different departments
