Not everybody has access to that. Or get to them before the news breaks and don't let them watch it.
Once the world gets out, everyone will know your face.

Another excellent idea.

I call that "The Tsarneav". He had the entire city of Boston and all federal agencies looking for him door to door and he hid for a long arse time in a boat in a back yard.

That was in tiny search area too.

I could get pretty damn far on a bicycle in an hour with no one looking for me and hide in a lifted yacht in a warehouse outside the city.

Go buy food, water, some books, and a bucket. Ditch cell phone and car. Go hide in the cuddy cabin of a random boat in the marina that I know does not get used in winter.

Very few people would be successful. Are we talking regular people looking for you, or FBI, CIA, Marshals, etc.?

This. If military and FBI type services are trying to track you down, very few people would be able to stay undetected. If you go to an extremely remote place (swamp or woods) then you would be easily found via helicopter with infrared technology. Every helicopter in the world will be in the skies looking for you so that eliminates remote places. You would have to hide in plain site amongst the masses. Honestly whoever said disguised as a bum in Times Square had a good idea. Even if bums were instructed to look for you, they wouldnt give a frick even if you were sitting right next to them. Half of them are insane.

I'd just let them find me, this shite is too complicated.

Another option would be to home invade someone, hold them and their kids hostage for 5 days, and make them answer the door and say you're not there if someone comes searching for you. You can hold a gun to their kids' heads in the other room as motivation to lie for you.

I think the cops would find a way in there to kill you if you're in a house. If you're in an enclosed vault with a dead man's trigger, I don't know how they could feasibly break in without you immediately killing everyone.

They wouldn't know I was there. Thats the whole point.

ETA:

and good luck finding/building a bomb and dead man trigger in under an hour

Hide out in north BR motel for 5 days.

I really believe that a person could check into a shady motel within 1 hour of their house with lots of cash and just not leave the room for 5 days.

Soooooo? All you have to do is get to someone before the news breaks. Hold them hostage for 5 days, you win.

I'm failing to see how not letting them see the news once they are hostages has any relevance.

I know some caves and abandoned mines I could get to in 30 minutes. They aren't easy to get to at all and unless you know where they are you probably won't find them. I could get lost deep in a dark corner of one of those.

Helicopters wouldn't be able to pick up my heat signature underground. I'd just have to figure out a way to lose my scent so dogs couldn't track me

People never find what's right under their noses.

I withdraw all my cash, lose my cell phone, go buy full Arabian woman disguise (the one the covers every inch of your body except your eyes.

Go to a spa and have them wax my eyebrows and put eye makeup on me.

Hop a bus for a big city. Doesn't matter which one as long as they're tolerant.

Once I get there, from that point on I don't speak. Pay cash for a hotel room, go eat in restaurants where I can just point to the menu.

Done.

Yeah, you can't have any human interaction anywhere CLOSE to where you are hiding. Can't give them any reason to narrow the search area.

That's why misdirection is hugely important.

1. Check in while in disguise
2. Pay him off
