Honey-pie this is a free country.
You can walk around acting like an obnoxious, black bitch all day long if you want but don't be surprised when people treat you like one.

Back at Essence, we used “sister girl language,” but since then, I’d faced tougher environments.
So she's mad she can't speak ebonics and hood rat in public without looking like a dumbass? Got it.

Who woulda thunk we'd ever elect another democratic racist President...

I have the same issues with suppressing my hatred and rage for democrats. This isn't code either, I am talking about ppl of all races who identify themselves as democrats.

I started to worry about all the other things I might have to explain: My hair, the food I eat, why I like Miles Davis, Nina Simone and Marvin Gaye.
Wtf is this shite? What food does she eat that she'd have to explain?
And what's weird about liking Miles Davis and Marvin Gaye?

And that's what these people don't get.
I couldn't care less wtf she does, unless it's in a professional setting.
As far the hair, soul music, chicken, watermelon: it reminds me of my girlfriend my sophmore year of college. And who doesn't like fried chicken, watermelon, and soul music?

Maybe she is a cannibal and uses racism to disguise her appetite and all of her other feelings of inadequacy.
The thing I don't get is, from the few details she gave, it does not appear that she wants to do anything unacceptable. She has set a few higher standards for herself and is bitching about it. she has also set some standards that are not higher, they are just stupid.
Eat what you want, say Hey girl, and fart loudly in your car. Nobody cares.

Plus, who the hell explains food? I don't see the Chinese worrying about "explaining" their food.

"Soul food" is really just poor southern food. I don't know why blacks think the cuisine is unique to them or something. Maybe in Yankeeville, but almost anyone raised in the Deep South has been eating and cooking that their whole life, regardless of race.
And for that matter, what the hell is the deal with Kool-aid!?
They act like white kids didn't grow up drinking the same damn thing during the summer.
Hell, I saw a stupid article somewhere claiming that drinking Kool-aid was "cultural appropriation".

Well, white people need to stop making jokes about black people and fried chicken when they eat the food themselves. I'm mainly talking on this board and other internet sites because I've never heard the jokes in person.

It's white people who make the jokes about it. I guess you only see what you want to see on this board.

I live in a town that is 3/4 black and our main fried chicken place is packed all the time (the owner is making a fortune).
We have five BBQ places too - all really good.
It is not a surprise or big deal that an ethnic group has a penchant to eat a particular food. Happens all the time. Ethnic food is a big American tradition.
Lighten up.

Don't most people have to suppress their personalities generally while in public and specifically in the workplace? It's called getting along and being a functioning, civil adult.
Writer seems terribly immature and bratty.
