This is the most ridiculous hypothetical. Sane parents know how critical a SS is in life, and they do it at birth. It’s a part of my everyday life. You have to have a damn SS# to purchase life insurance.
Your original premise about contributing to SS is also stupid as frick. My mother has a SS and was a teacher in LA, she didn’t pay into SS. He will have to pay into it whether you like it or not.

Odds OP disappears when he gets dickslapped in court? Has to be 99%

I imagine he tells this to his coworkers, friends and family as if he’s doing the world a huge justice and they all secretly think he’s fricking retarded

quote:he's 15 years old. these are the kinds of "choices" you as a parent make for him. what is your son's reasoning for not wanting a SSN? is it due to your insistence that it isnt required, or his?
My motivation is the same as I stated before. I want to give my son the choice on what he does.

Just plain stupid. Using your kid to buck the system is wrong. Let him make that decision when he turns 18.

To be fair, I lost interest after 4 pages of this, so you may have answered clearly already...
What is the ultimate goal regarding the SSN?
Not having an SSN does not relieve you of paying SS or other taxes. If I understand correctly, not having an SSN does prevent you from receiving SS benefits (medicare/medicaid as well?)
I understand the concept of forcing the a public agency to comply with statute, regardless of standard practices.
Bottom line is your son will still be required to contribute the taxes on his income. This is presuming, of course, he will participate in the workforce in some fashion.
I agree with your frustration, but I fail to grasp the goal of refusing the SSN. I see a LOT of lost money for you (taxes, legal fees) and a LOT of time/energy spent for you, and later for him.
Good luck, I hope you have an explanation. I am genuinely interested in your reasoning.

What is your response? "Sorry but I couldn't pass up that sweet child tax credit?"

He may turn 18 become a missionary and live in the jungle, who knows

Ok... everyone who thinks we are going to lose in court owes me 10 push-ups if we win.

The OMV capitulates and gives my son a TIP card without him having to apply for or provide a SS number.

OP is the greatest troll in OT history, IMO. This thread is great. I believe there are a few contributing trolls keeping this thread going too. Classic.

What if they capitulate the day before your sons 16th birthday and then decide to strong arm you on his drivers license when he goes for that the next day?

I think you might "eventually" win in the court system, but I think your kid might also be a legal adult by the time that happens.

quote:OK so the presiding judge has to find responsibility for injury or harm due to the action or inaction of the defendant, and direct them to do so. his options are
The OMV capitulates and gives my son a TIP card without him having to apply for or provide a SS number
1) make a special exception for your snowflake
2) tell you to go get the kid a SSN and get out of your courtroom
option 1 requires court time, money and other resources be expended on your behalf, to remedy an injury or harm which you will be hard pressed to quantify. option 2 requires none of that, possibly 5 minutes of court time, and allows he/she to move on with the docket. if you opt for a jury trial, you'll be further encumbering the resources of the jurors time and effort, and will have the added onus to convince them that all of this is worth that encumbrance, regardless of statute. understand that every single one of those jurors (and the judge) were assigned a SSN at birth and gave it no further thought.
talk to me goose...how is this going to go your way?

I for one and pulling for this cat and his son and hope he doesn't cave and pushes back hard so we can all get a little more educated with how it plays out.

I think it would be more fitting if they all had to post their SS# instead of doing pushups.

No need, I can just download them off the internet since the DMV leaked them twice.

Are you one of the parents that requested his permission to change his diaper when he was an infant?
Gotta make sure to give him the choice.

If this was anywhere close to your rationale for this waste of time lawsuit you’d have mentioned it before page 19. You have demonstrated yourself to be erratic, stubborn, and unreasonable through this conversation. At no point have you demonstrated an ability to have a dialogue about the topic or even conceded that your approach might be faulty.
In short, it seems as if you’ve gotten what you wanted - attention.
And I will not do pushups if the state capitulates just because they don’t feel like dealing with this complete waste of time.
