Only read the negative reviews. The positives are from people who have barely used the product and are addicted to giving 5 star reviews. If you see an intolerable pattern, don't buy it.

i feel like a dinosaur. The only thing I buy from Amazon are books. And I don't think I can ever have too many as long as I'm reading them.

Amazon promotes it's brands first. Go to second page and you might have to pay a couple of dollars extra... There have been multiple documentaries and news specials about this. There is currently a lawsuit and the FTC is investigating them for monopolistic behavior.

Back in the start of the DVD boom I ordered Philedelphia Experiment from them. They sent me Philelphia Story instead.

They should have stayed out of the delivery business. I found they were better when UPS and fedEx did their deliveries.

Five star reviews are often fake. One star reviews are the assholes that received a broken item and got pissy instead of exchanging. I try to read the three and four star reviews. They seem to be the most honest.

The things I like and buy online? I now go to the manufacturer themselves, now-a-days; or I go to a specialist site for that particular kind of product.

Amazon has become a lot like Aliexpress, it's flooded with cheap Chinese crap. You can always tell the knockoff products because the company name is some random word that makes no sense like: Yamatic, YooToo, Vieneci, etc...

Yeah, the fake brands always give me a good laugh. In the "see also" section for that garden hose, there's the same exact hose listed by brands "Vorey", "DuLaSeed", "Whimswit", "Fevone", "Knoikos", etc.

Honestly I love getting things delivered to my door. I'm all about ordering things from Sams Club and Amazon for delivery. Beats the hell out of going into a bricks and mortar super center. Got my new TV, a pool vac, and most of my new power tools delivered from either Sams or Amazon in the past few weeks.

You do have to watch what you buy very carefully on Amazon though. If it's a bigger ticket item, you need to research the brand and find the right model.
