You don't "date" someone for 10 fricking years unless you've been dating since 6th grade and agree to get a doctorate before saying the vows. If he's not trolling, then this dude is a scumbag and a dickhead. 5 years is absolute tops you should date someone without at least telling someone you have no plans to get married. If you do have plans, you need to be engaged by that point.
OP said they got engaged over a year ago and HE DID WANT TO MARRY HER THEN. He just changed his mind. Sucks for her, but it's what is best. Free will can be a bitch.

I can only hop in here and update every quick once in a while...at work.
No, we are technically not living together although we spend the majority of nights together. Yes, we each have keys/passwords to each others property. I have a good bit of stuff at her place. I don't care what happens to any of it. I'm not worried about getting the ring back. She can sell it or do whatever she wants with it.

I think a few pages back someone established her age as around her mid 30's.
Unless LuckyTiger said it, the "facts" people have been spewing are nothing but speculation

Where and when are you doing this?
I'd like to be the first dick she falls on in the aftermath

Lucky, how old are you and how old is she? Everyone seems to be hung up on whether you two met in grade school or in college.
Posted on 11/12/14 at 3:01 pm to OMLandshark
Lucky may have a good reason...maybe she cheated on him years ago and he isn't able to forgive her. Maybe he's the stupid one for sticking around. Let's hear what he has to say before judging

I looked through OPs post history. Looks like he met her 1st day of grad school which would probably mean she is 32-35. Clock is deafening.
If this is true, girl is an idiot

To string a woman along for 10 years when surely you knew you didn't want to marry her earlier is pathetic. I would assume she's figured this out by now as well and has told her boyfriend about it.

10-year relationship. Engaged with no set date; we were discussing June and July next year.
She will be getting married to someone in either June or July. If you have stringed her along for 10 years and drop her, she will marry the next guy with a quickness.
Probably be some 45 year old dude with 3 kids.

at all these people giving him a hard time. Can people's feelings not change? How many people here have been divorced? How many people here have parents divorced? 10 years does not guarantee a life of happiness. I actually commend you for having the balls to end it now rather than going through with a marriage you know will not succeed.

Unless you are in love with someone else, or this girl has turned psycho, I don't know why you break up with her after 10 years.
You'll regret it and ask her to take you back.

OP don't take this terrible advice above
Posted on 11/12/14 at 3:04 pm to alajones
Maybe she wants to break up with they guy but doesn't know how to tell him?

OP, hope you really searched your feeling for your soon to be ex.
10 years is a long time. My son and his GF lived together for 10 years. 3 months before the wedding, they both called it off. Guess they both search there souls.

Honestly you are doing her a favor in the long run. But tonight, you are the scum of the earth. If you don't want to be married to her now, it will get much worse after marriage and a kid. Rip the band-aid. She is going to be a freaking wreck for quite some time. Shut down any method of communication and don't get on any social media sites showing yourself having an awesome time. But by all means have a bunch of fun, you haven't been single in 10 years.
