I'm in my 3rd year teaching as a high school teacher in Baton Rouge and I fricking hate it. The pay sucks, the kids I teach are ill-behaved shitheads propagated by social media and their unemployed, lazy parents that show no desire to care about their education, the administration is difficult, hardly any discipline is allowed and fights between students are a daily occurrence, Covid has only made things worse, I'm in the minority of white teachers and have no common views/hobbies with the other teachers. Overheard a group of them saying how Kamala was doing a good job but was complaining about their grocery bills earlier.
Thoughts and prayers, baw.

It is great for your lungs, eyes and health in general. You will be dead by 62, but you won't have to deal with those high school asshats anymore.

You can’t move out of state and continue teaching in a better environment?

The paper mill in West Monroe is hiring welders, and a few other positions.

Teaching would suck for me too and I don’t blame you. But it’s unfortunate you’ll be replaced by yet another brainwashed leftist who’ll keep brainwashing the next generation.
Go be a trucker. They’re in demand.

Have you thought about teaching at a school that wasn’t shite?

The way to make it as a welder in Baton Rouge is to not live in Baton Rouge. You can join local 198 and once you are a journeyman travel all over doing turnarounds and make good money. Otherwise it seems kinda deadend-ish around here. I'm sure there's some decent companies around but they are exceptions to the rule.

If for any reason you stay in teaching, get a job with a private school instead.

Why not try teaching in a less cultured environment?

Union iron workers, etc make great money up here in New England, if you’re not afraid of heights.
Hell a good commercial general contractor gig is $80/hr.
All that to say: pick a trade, excel in it, and the money will come.

I was you 30 years ago. Didn’t want to be a welder though. Went into chemical plant operations.
Best decision I ever made.

I was curious how because he got caught with weed in college he cannot work in another district. Guess other areas won't hire him because of the arrest which he can appeal

It sure if it’s the same as I’ve not worked hourly in years but the highest paid craft on any job I was on in the past was the “instrument technician”.
You have one of the top instrumentation schools in the world in Baton Rouge (ITI). The work is easy and somewhat mentally challenging. The tools are small and a lot of the work is done inside. If you are good and understand PLC’s and DCS systems you can write your own ticket.
After getting some experience, I’d absolutely expect you to be making north of 80-90k.
I went to ITI in 1994. Keep in mind, this was a long time ago. I had a desire to make at least 2x my age in thousands per year as a goal. I made my goals poorly. I should have been shooting for 3 or 4x my age because I was able to achieve that pretty quickly. If you’d like to discuss it I’d be willing to chat about it.
