The key was the right balance of tech. Tech was great in many ways until it became mobile and we came to depend on it for everything we do. Early 90s was sort of the end of the humans over tech by 98/99 tech was asserting itself over humans.
If your tech is free....you are the product.

I wonder how modern women would feel if they had to give up their vibrators?

Lingerie section of a Sears ad used to do the trick. Now I need to be able to see far enough inside of a chick to know what her last meal was.

We used to have gun racks in our pickup trucks and would drive to school and around town with rifles and shotguns in plain sight. No one thought anything about it, including policemen and the folks in charge of the schools. It was just normal, I assume for all rural towns. No crimes were being committed and no break ins to take our guns. Most all of my friends were frequent hunters. Not sure if this was a routine practice in urban towns in the 60s and 70s.

No man ever has lived without it.
“Modern technology” maybe what you mean?

Obviously I like the comfort of AC, electricity, television, internet etc…. But I feel like life would have been so much simpler and better in a lot of ways before it. You just basically spend all your time outside with people, reading and writing, doing whatever. No way to be connected, no one can call you and bother you. And since none of this technology existed you wouldn’t be missing it.
You want time before smartphones. If we had to break out the laptop or fire up the tower console, people would be better connected.

It was great in the 70s. We just didn’t know it. Playing outside in the woods until dark. No social media. Using your imagination to make up games with other kids in the neighborhood to fill up a day.
We did this in the late 90’s too. We just also had to options to play the N64 or some of the absolute greatest of computer games (Command and Conquer, StarCraft, Warcraft, Age of Empires, Civilization)

My grandparents liked to reminisce, but they also talked about how hard it was. None of them would have willingly given up their modern conveniences.

Until in the middle of covid, I didn't have a watch, I didn't have a cellphone, I didn't have a TV.
COVID totally changed my life. Now I have all three.

Was born in the 80’s, grew up in the 90’s, went to college in the 00’s.
Working on computers for a living but don’t own one bc I don’t want to be around them when I get home.
Still rock my old Super Nintendo on my 75 inch TV though.
Also, the Boomer generation, those frickers didn’t grow up with it but rely on the technology more than anyone. The amount of stuff I have to work on for people 60 plus is fricking stupid!

Yeah. You were in the middle transition decade. We had the beginning stuff like Atari and Coleco handhelds. Walkman and boom boxes. Went from rotary to those fancy push bottom phones, but still had the 20 foot cord to untangle. Five channel Zenith TV with rabbit ears that were the size of a chest of drawers. Peak in through the back vent holes to see all the tubes thinking “that’s crazy, how does that even work.” Freaking green machines and big wheels and pieced together bikes with banana seat one month and pear seat the next. Nobody available to run through the woods or ride bikes with so either toss a ball up in the air playing catch with yourself until you got tired or throw rocks at a tree. Bouncing tennis balls off the side of the house taking grounders. So many great memories.

Although we were lower middle class, I had a halfpipe in my backyard in the 80’s with a tent set up under the deck. We pretty much went inside to poop and get food when it wasn’t raining on weekends and all summer from 6th - 9th grade.

Dont think I could handle it back when all they had was kerosene lamps for light and nothing to do but read or whittle on a stick.
