Probably the biggest shock to me would be the fact that the Soviet Union just collapsed on it's own and ceased to exist. When I was a kid it seemed like this giant behemoth that was poised to swallow the world at any moment.

And then I'd tell my younger self to enjoy Spice channel limbo.

though I think anybody with an IQ over 50 figured that wouldn't be happening in the 25 year period between 1990-2015 anyway.

I knew that shite wasn't going to happen. Dumb fricks on the road can't even drive on pavement, much less in air.

Probably this. I grew up relatively poor (working class) and even my upper middle class friends lived in modest homes and weren't pretentious.

You've obviously never seen Remy LaCroix's hula hoop skills.

Yeah, we grew up believing the end could be imminent. Kind of weird when the iron curtain fell. I remember practicing duck and cover.

I remember the day it all started. I'd just got back stateside and was stationed back at Ft. Knox. Our CO called everyone in the day room to watch it live on CNN.

1991 Soviet coup d'état attempt

That was going on. Folks just kept their mouths shut back then instead of blasting it out on Twitter, Instagram, or FB.

Not at my HS. The teachers were pretty busted up. Maybe I should retract and say HS teachers not looking like grandmothers or feminazi librarians.

I think what would surprise me most is the instantaneous communication with people for one. You can get someone via text, audio and even video from pretty much any corner of the globe. It's amazing!

PLUS... the internet... hello! I have the collective knowledge of the entire human race right here in my motherfricking pocket! Hey... I don't know anything about lizard livers... give me five minutes, and I know all I need to know!

The thing that would surprise me most in a negative way is how we have squandered all these years when it comes to space exploration. When I was growing up in the 70's, I thought for SURE we would be on Mars by 2015. shite, we would probably have a colony there.

Also... no cure for cancer? Are you SERIOUS? I thought we would have that by now.

Porn everywhere... well, now I know why we haven't colonized Mars or cured cancer.

Since content of character that Martin Luther King jr talks about equals how much of a tip you leave, surprised at how people still tip in the future.

Black president
Gay marriage

I'm cool with both, but those would surprise the heck out of me if I beamed in from the 80s.

My iPhone.

As a kid in the 70's and 80's I loved music and the only way pre- Walkmans to carry around music was a bunch of cassettes and an old Radio Shack tape deck or a giant arse boom box if you wanted everyone to hear.

My phone now holds my entire music collection from then until now...a shite ton of family photos...books, movies, functions as a more than serviceable camera, a calculator, calendar...and it can access this internet thing that essentially gives me access to any and all information known to the human race at almost instantaneous speed.

Did I mention it also functions as a phone...a cordless phone I can use fricking anywhere?

When I stop and think about it for a minute, my phone is by far and aware the coolest thing I've ever owned. My 11 year old self still gets stunned at just how incredible thi little thing is.
