Allow my boy pedro to sing it for you

youtube song

To be clear, I work in an office.

I make six figures doing absolutely nothing most days.

I like most of the people I work with.

I would show up, pay for a sound system to be installed. And sing this song via wireless mic as I sashay out the door.

As for who I would tell... My wife. That's about it.

I'd pretend to run a semi successful wood shop.

I wouldn’t tell anyone besides close friends. Not because I want to keep it secret, but because I’m never telling people anything about my finances. People will find out, nothing you can do about it.

I wouldn’t quit flat out but I don’t see myself working full time and stressing, so I’m sure I would leave eventually.

I’d rent out an entire fishing lodge in Alaska and hide out for like a year.

Rotate to a warmer climate lodge for the winter.

That way the only people I see are the ones I fly in.

I’d never win so I’ll just pretend it would be nice to quit. I’d still find something to do though with less stress; I can’t just sit around the house all day.

did i win $10mm or $100mm? my answer is different based on that.

$500mm and i never have to work another day and can be pretty flagrant about it. and give away $400mm and still be fine.

$10mm and i'll have a great life but i'm going to still work my day to day, albeit a bit more swaggy.

$10M would be very tempting to quit working. Would probably be around $6M after taxes. Invested conservatively with 5% annual return is $300k a year. I can live comfortably on that without having to worry about working anymore.

ETA: How many people I tell depends on how much I win. If say $10M, I'm telling nobody outside of immediate family. My style of living wouldn't change much from what it is now except for being able to fish and hunt on weekdays. If anybody else asks, I'll just say I started working at as outside consultant and make my own schedule.

But if its $40M+, it'll be a little harder to keep a secret from everyone. I'd probably tell about 5 people outside my family, then change my phone number and delete social media to avoid all the long lost cousins and people I haven't spoken to in years from coming out the woodwork.

Quitting job, telling immediate family, and buying a property on the beach and in the mountains.

Might buy an RV and travel to all away games for my sports teams. Sounds like a good life to me.

Edit: As someone asked in thread, this is if I win $100+ million. If I only won $10million, id probably still work for another decade, not tell too many people (parents/siblings only), and just upgrade my house/car.

I'm definitely quitting my job, but I really like the company and more importantly the people I work for and with. I wouldn't leave them in a bind, they're like family and have taken good care of me over the years professionally and personally. I would need a few days to get my financial advisors and accountants lined up to take care of my money, but I would stay on in a limited capacity until they found my replacement.

not initially no, but i sure as shite would be a lot less tolerant to how i am treated. I would tell them, because then they would realize that they truly need me more than them, and i'm willing to walk the frick away

I think over time people will find out, but I'm going to try and keep it on the down low for as long as I can. Of course, once I build a nice home on 600 acres they might begin to figure it out! By that time, all my phone numbers, email addresses and anything else I can think of will be changed!

Definitely retiring early, but wouldn't be a dick about it. I like my job, bosses, and co-workers. I would just prefer to be on my own schedule.

Let's say $500 million. I'd stay in my job long enough for a smooth transition but I would not be doing much actual work. I'd take $100 million for my personal use, and the rest after paying taxes would go to my charitable foundation for local causes. My new job would be managing my investments and the charitable foundation. I would train one or two of my kids to take over for me and run the charitable foundation eventually, and manage its investments with the investment profits going to their salary and charitable causes we select, while maintaining the assets of the foundation so that it can last a while. But the foundation would not be named after me. It would have a generic name. Everyone who cared to would find out it is me, but I would not go around trumpeting it.

i enjoy my work. it's rewarding, i'm genuinely helping the greater good, and i have a good boss who is like a second father to me and kept me employed during some pretty lean years when i wasn't able to contribute due to some market trends.

today, that's not the case. if i left the company, they'd take a huge hit and lose about 30% of their GP, minimum. i'd probably buy my boss out so he can retire and work part time on his terms and then have his son (who is like a brother to me) run the business with me. probably upgrade a few things i don't love about the company, but it would have to be in the 100mms for me to just walk away scot free and be done without regard for my company.

I'd probably leave my employer but would still likely work. Maybe start my own company working part time doing what I am now but more on a consulting basis.

Did you mean to say "how many people are you telling off?"

I have a list! I also have a list of people, mostly family, that I'd probably help out a little.

I probably wouldn't survive very long after anyway.
