The question was 1700s. Not 1700s Europe.

I'd invent home insurance and every time an English ship got rained on, anywhere in the world, I'd jack up the rates because of "all the recent storms"

Other than that I can shovel bat guano, burn wood, and know how to make black powder.

That's where you are wrong. If you could read a book and write coherently you had a leg up on about 95% of the population at the time. Assuming your abilities were above the rudimentary level

One of the biggest issue would be being so much smarter about the world and them thinking you were some kind of witch/warlock. Or a threat to their power.

That's what I was coming here to say. "I can read"

I’ve read up on the penicillin making. It’s not simple.

I would still be an incredible marksman.

And I could probably manage the frick out of any startup business in the 1700s.

Even with my medical knowledge acquired without medical school, I would probably still be the best doctor in town.

I would be the Public Health savior, there’s easy low-hanging fruit in upping the game there and stopping blood-letting and the ancient nonsense of “humors”.

The obvious thing would be to create penicillin from bread mold.

Here’s the thing:
I’m extremely confident in my ability to take pus from cowpox pustules and spreading it subcutaneously in other people without harming them.

I’m very unconfident in my ability to isolate a protein from bread mold, purify it, sterilize it, and inject it back into humans at an appropriate rate/volume/concentration.

I would have no problem explaining the process and telling people how it’s possible.

But doing it with 1700s tech? Pie in the sky.

If there is water around, I can catch anything in water. All I would need was food to survive. You can live in anything.

I would be done without the internet

Does knowing how to create and run private equity funds work in the 1700s?

I would do all I could to make sure slavery was illegal in the states once the 70's came around. I wouldn't be popular in the 1700s or ever after the timeline was changed. Call me crazy, but I think we would be a much better county without the stain of slavery on our record.

If you didnt have the skills, you wouldnt need to worry long. You'd starve in weeks.

Right. Or what most logical people would do if transported to that time would be to just find the highest cliff you can and jump off of it to your death

Anyone that thinks it would be anything other than complete misery compared to life today is fooling themselves

yeah, folks hadn't heard about metal or fire in the 1700s.

You'd be a god.

Fire as it creates explosion...dynamite, weapons, steam, etc etc

Metals to contain the explosions...guns, etc
