The lifeguard gig was definitely more fun but was just a little over minimum wage (I think I made $4.75/hour the first summer and $5.00 the second summer). Construction job was $10/hour and the guy I worked for paid all cash, no taxes/IRS, AND he bought us lunch every day. That was a lot of money in the 90s for a HS summer job (at least to me).

I was I HS in the mid 90s so in the morning it was basically watch the same sportscenter about 3 times in a row. Then play a bunch of basketball or something similar. Sophomore year I started to work so I would be getting ready to either paint parking lot lines at the Chalmette government building or taking random classes like typing at Nunez community college.

I’d be in summer workouts for football m-f 8-11am; then eat and nap; then meet up with friends, ride our bikes, go see a movie, play NCAA football on PlayStation
