All depends on financial situation….scholarships? Parent support? Financial aid?

My son was able to take those classes in high school with dual credit.

The important thing is to make sure that those credits will transfer to the university.

This is so true. Many higher ranked schools won't give any AP or dual degree credit. In fact, they won't let them retake the classes they got credit for in high school. The reward for excelling in high school is starting college with no credits and taking higher level maths and sciences.

If I’m an average student and I’m looking at acquiring debt to acquire a degree, I certainly do. If mom and dad are paying, and I can get into a good and fun four year school, I’m going there.

Yep. In Florida, if you come out of High School with an AA, you lose your ability to use Bright Futures.

Luckily, most Texas universities will accept the dual credits earned through the Community Colleges. But we definitely checked to be sure TCU would before he took any more dual credit classes his senior year.

I did 1 better and took 3 years. Ended up being the extra 30 hours I needed for my CPA exam. The grades transfer as is to a regular university and it is cheap as shite (cost me $100 a semester to go to BRCC with the lowest topps available). If you're on a budget or didn't get a scholarship, this is definitely the way to go.

mid-30s CPA, BRCC and SELU grad making mid 100ks

In Louisiana you would be foolish not to do community college first. LSU has become such a rip off. Do 2 years at the CC and then bite the bullet and give your hard earned money to the liberal fricks at LSU to earn your 4 year degree.

The University experience was worth a hell of a lot more than I paid for it. Not shocking most of this board doesn’t value it

Mine has finished all of his classes but will not officially graduate until May, I tried to get him to sign up at the local Community College to get started but he's not ready to focus.

So he's working making $14.50 an hour, he's liking that money.

First 2 years at community college are free in Tennessee. So that is significantly cheaper...

Yep. I’ve already let mine know this is their route unless they earn it themselves. My tax dollars at work.

Going through pledgeship as a Junior would suck.

Depends. If I know what I wanted to do in life and I was trying to start a business, I would go with a CC and study business specifically and apply that to my life.

If I didn't know what I wanted to do; I'd go to college.

knew of a few pledges that were vets retuning from Vietnam when I was at LSU, always wondered about that, maybe they were doing everything they could to try and put that behind them and search for normalcy?

All depends on what schools they are wanting to go to. If I was looking at LSU, UL Laf, Alabama, Auburn, Tamu, I would do 60 hours at CC. If they got accepted to UF, UNC, GT, Tulane, Northwestern, prestigious public schools or mid tier private/High tier, I would just go in as a freshman, you don’t want to waist that chance, because there is no promise to be accepted again as a transfer student.

Depends on my parents financial status.

But why? English 101 and Remedial Math cost a lot less at CC, and maybe your parents can use the leftover money to buy you a car, or pride, or something. A bunch of the kids that run around talking about getting into any number of "name brand" schools are going to be "taking a break," for some odd reason before their sophomore year.

Because I think a 4 year school (and spending 4 years there away from home) is a superior product for the classroom, socially, and for future job potential.

But if money is tight I would say to do the first two years at a CC.

I would unless you have scholarship money to make it work going to a 4 year or easier to get in the program you want.

Nope. I’d go to an SEC school and party my eyeballs out.

I'd vote for a bill that proposed either attending some type of institution of higher learning after high school or a mandatory two years of military service. Not saying I think it would pass, but it would get at least one vote.
