A quarter and a pager number would have worked. I didn't get my first cell phone til I was maybe 20.

ou lost your argument when you admitted to having a cell phone in junior high.

Born 1985. All this makes sense to me.

My first cell phone was given to me in summer 2001.
It was a Nokia and the only thing it was used for was Snake and calling mom when drivers ed was finished to come pick me up from Christian Life.

I guess I'm a boomer at 76, but being in IT, I love change and new technology. I spend a lot of time helping other boomers with tech issues, their PC's, phones, TV's, streaming, it's alarming how little many of them can absorb.
I remember in the early 90's trying to teach the miracle of Lotus 1-2-3 (spreadsheets) to accounting people, it was a difficult concept to grasp.

A lot of these tech items at the time were only prohibitive by cost and not necessarily availability
Early mobile tech access was very dependent on how well off your family was

And then you have examples of tech that was both prohibitively expensive and apparently not available anywhere
Have any of you ever seen one of these in person prior to 2020?

That's me. The very tail-end of Gen X. I used casette tapes in junior high, VHS until college. And began downloading music around that same time.
I even had a Commodore 64 as a kid and remember the BBS system. You would put your phone on the modem and connect (much like in the movie War Games).
So yeah, I seen it all. Commodore/BBS, casette/VHS, onto DVD and digital downloads, now onto streaming music/video services
That's a Panasonic 3DO. My best friend had one in the early/mid 90s

That is above my income level. I had a Dreamcast and people thought I was rich.

Sounds like I had a blended analog/digital childhood while you had a purely analog childhood

Game Boy had nothing on the Game Gear
But I heard the Lynx is worse. I say is because it's in the same category as the 3D0.

In all technicality, Gen Xers born before ‘76 fit into that as well…

They were everywhere, even at schools. Some days I consider dropping my phone service and then I remember all the pay phones are gone.

My parents were poor... I was lucky to have my boombox to record my favorite top 40s on with an old cassette and scotch tape.
