If you went to an Ivy League school, would you not tell people?

Was talking to someone recently. They mentioned they went to school up north and that's all they said. Eventually I asked him where he went to school and it was an Ivy League school and I asked him all about it because I thought it was badass. But someone later pointed out to me, he probably doesn't like bringing that up to people.

With that sort of thing, it's better not to make a point of it.

I could be mistaken, but I think Slowpro turned down ivy league to attend LSU.

I work with a guy who went to Harvard, and he brings it up every opportunity he gets.

If someone asked, Id say where I went, just like I do now. I probably wouldn't want to elaborate on it, not much good can come out of it.

I understand, but it seemed kinda odd nonetheless. If I was him, I wouldn't bring it up but if the subject came up, I wouldn't be worried about telling my own life story.

Nichols is called Harvard on the Bayou, but it is not really Ivy League.

My undergrad degree was from Auburn and when people ask that is where I say I graduated not Harvard.

It depends on who you're talking to. Some people react very poorly, even if it comes up organically in conversation.

eta: I mention it aggressively on my Tinder profile though. Wildly successful there.

Knew a guy who went to Brown. Always thought it was pretentious that he would drop that now and again unprovoked. Obviously, he's a bright guy but honestly not the very best at his particular job. He lacks some people skills. Still, have to admit that his background does carry some weight and he deserves to have a little pride that he made the cut and graduated fairly high in a class of some very smart people.

One of the nicest and most humble men I know got his Masters at Yale and is a Director at Deloitte Touche. He works two weeks out of his Atlanta office and DT rents him a very nice condo in Nashville for the other 2 weeks.

I met him about 7 years ago when our daughters started dancing at the same studio. He drove an old pickup truck around town in the evenings and on weekends. All he ever told me (that he seemed proud of) was that he was the drummer in his church band. We never discussed each other's occupations or education until about three months after we met when we had his family over for dinner. I thought it more impressive that he never gave a subtle hint about his job or education than the fact that he was an executive at DT.
