He must be a huge introvert and just dont want to bring attention to himself. Some ppl actually don't like any attention, good or bad.

I'm going to Columbia in the fall for b-school, and plan on riding the name a lot during the interview process for internships and jobs.

However, after all that is done, whenever people ask me where I went to school, I'll always say Arkansas.

I went to Baylor, definitely nowhere close to Ivy League, and don't even like mentioning that because everyone thinks my parents are millionaires because it costs so much to go there and I only have like $8K in loans.

My fam isn't poor or anything, but I just find it easier to just not mention it because everyone asks, "OMG, what was it like going to a religious school????," or "So what's up with David Koresh", or the typical "So your parents paid $45K a year for you to get a Bachelor's degree, that's so dumb".

My girlfriends brother went to Harvard. She takes every opportunity she gets to mention it. Gets annoying as frick.

This has been on Dear Prudence a couple of times. Some Harvard folks say they "went to school in Boston" just to try to avoid the "well, aren't you a smarty" reaction of some people,

Depending on the group I'm in, I sometimes tell a story as "when I was living in Baton Rouge ..." to avoid looking like a braggart. Hey, I run in low circles, so even saying you went to LSU can be seen as boasting.

But then someone says, "Oh, BC or BU?" "Well, technically not in Boston, but nearby." "Cambridge." "Actually Harvard, not MIT." It's just as pretentious to say Boston as Cambridge.

People who say, "I went to school in Boston" are the worst.

I didn't even make it into an Ivy, but went to another highly rated school and have have found that unless you want to work in NYC it works against you as much as for you for a myriad of reasons.

The assumption that you are a douche being high on the list.

One of the nicest and most humble men I know got his Masters at Yale and is a Director at Deloitte Touche. He works two weeks out of his Atlanta office and DT rents him a very nice condo in Nashville for the other 2 weeks.

Was married to my 1st wife for 5-6 years before I found out her dad was a Yale graduate. Her mother was a U. of IL grad, and I knew they meet in college, always assumed he went there also, he never mentioned Yale.

I don't make any judgment based on it. I know a couple of guys who went to Harvard who are sharp and do excellent work in their field. I know another who is the dumbest piece of shite. You'd think he flunked out of Southern.

And I know folks who went to Southern who do good work. (Others, not so much.) It comes down to the individual, not where they went to school.

I knew a guy who went to Samford in Birmingham and when people asked him where he went to school he'd say it real fast and when people would look sort of shocked and say, "Really?" he'd just casually shake his head.

I'd definitely say "up north." And if I got pressed, then I'd say where. Then the dumb bitch would drop her panties for the smart AND humble guy.

I wouldn't dare mention it - I'm just humble like that.
