If you started a job where you originally made straight time paid overtime

And the employer decides to change that, in essence changing you to salary, is that legal?

Of course it’s legal

So the employer has the right to change your pay structure at any given time?

If you job category changes (i.e. hourly to salary), that can happen. Happened to me. I lost a lot of OT, but also got on a regular schedule, so it all depends on what you want.

Going to need more information. Do you supervise anyone?

You're asking if an employer has the option to change the amount of what you are paid? I'd say yes, that's legal. My employer changes the amount I'm paid every year...

straight time overtime is illegal if you are hourly...i think

if you dont have a written contract the employer can do pretty much whatever they want

I am asking if you agreed to a job, where in the offer letter, it said you would be paid straight time for overtime, but now the employer decides you are salary, without any position change.

It depends on whether they are an exempt employee or not. You can’t just change someone to salary to avoid paying overtime

Wrong. Once you hit a certain hourly rate at my company, you are no longer paid premium overtime. Its straight time pay, but once you hit that pay rate, you are also allowed to bank time after 40 hours.

Read the offer letter. I guarantee you it says they have the ability to change your pay, terminate you, etc at their discretion

as a salary employee or hourly? i am pretty sure federal labar laws state hourly employees must get time and a half after 40 hours

what does your offer letter, contract, and employee handbook say? What are the State laws around right to work?

This...
Certain classes of employees may not be salaried employees. It basically depends on what you do for a living.

Depends on a lot of things. Are you union? Are you in management? What line of work are you in? Some industries (engineering for example) consider all degreed employees exempt from OT even if they don't manage anyone. There's also state laws to consider.

The employer can't force the employee to accept those terms.
The employee needs to agree to it (decide to keep working there).

I'd be really interested to hear more about this. This sounds a bit like shenanigans. Federal labor laws trump all creative interpretations on ways to screw employees.

Did you and your employer both sign a contract stating that they couldn't?
