Just my reading this thread woke the dog up on his memory foam bed.

I know this is a joke, but we actually did buy a decently expensive memory foam bed for our dog.

The cover comes off and is machine washable. She doesn't tear stuff up, so the bed is going on 4 years old and looks like it'll last until she's dead (going on 10 years).

We thought we were being silly buying it ($120) but she loves it, sleeps on it every night, and it doesn't have a single rip or stain.

As far as the OP, our dog has a thick waterproof coat (lab mix) and she seems like she fricking hates the cold/rain. When it dips below 30 she is quick to want to get back inside. She plays in the snow for a bit, but when she's done she just looks at us and at the door as if to say "I'm done, let's get back in the warmth".

People who keep dogs in their house have dirty, dog hair covered houses. My dogs live outside, where God intended them to live.

But god intended for humans to live in climate controlled environments, right?

Jesus, was a carpenter. Pretty sure we were meant to create comfortable living conditions for ourselves.

Uh, what does this have to do with all the dog hair on your couch?

I used to be strict about dogs not coming in the house for anything. If it was below freezing they would stay in the garage. I don't know why I changed, but as I got older I let them inside more and more. Now my two dogs are inside 95% of the time. I'm generally happier now than I was before, the dogs may be part of the reason.

When it’s near freezing or below, my Lab sleeps in a crate in the porch with a small electric heater to keep warm.

Otherwise she’s in her kennel. She just outgrew her dogloo so we’re building her a traditional doghouse this weekend.

I used to have a Husky that went through phases of never wanting to come inside. You might want to build them dens with covered crates and then place an electric space heater nearby.

Before I catch shite for that, I’d do this inside of my carport storage room.

When it was cold, rainy and miserable, I would put an old blanket in his dog house. Next morning it was always dragged out outside and soaking wet. My dog preferred a plywood floor rather than soft carpet. Dogs are smart and dumb.

Stay outside all week while it's below freezing with just a fur coat on and see how long you last.

BS! I own Beagles. Had a litter of Beagle Pups twelve weeks old that were outside, with a good dog house, and the made it fine all Winter.
They never exhibited any signs of discomfort.
Fools who equate animals with human comfort are nuts.

Heelers and collies do fine outside, but they’d rather be following you around, inside and outside, rather than staying in the barn.

Plus, they’re just about the easiest dogs to train that exist, so inside isn’t much of a hassle.

This. Our Aussie loved being outside on cold days, but she loved keeping an eye on her herd (us) even more. Some people have a hard time training a very smart, strong willed dog, but Aussies are very easy to train if you know how.

I say dogs should live outside where they belong
They stink

I can go into a house and instantly tell if dog lives inside or not.

No ….you’re dog isn’t the exception, the damn thing fricking stinks.

It’s crazy the downvotes you get

Real working breed dogs are meant to be outside, if they have shelter to block wind they are fine. Obviously with temperatures being reasonably cold I’m not talking about prolonged well below freezing.

With that being said my two German shepherds stay inside and I think dogs should be inside with their families.

Beagles you say??LOL

Dogs need an option to be out of the wind, dry, and off the ground. Mine have insulated dog houses, wind flaps on the doors facing south. 1/4 acre pen for males. Same for females.

If I walk up there at night when there’s no wind and it’s dry, they’re usually sleeping on the ground in the grass, frost all around them.

Bring one in that’s acclimated to the weather and they overheat. It’s not fair to expect one to adjust to a change in temperature that quick. If your dog lives inside that’s a different story.

These fru fru fur balls aren’t real dogs.

I love inside dogs, but that is just how I choose to interact. Nothing wrong with outside dogs that have a healthy place to shelter. People are so misinformed.
