I'd build a wall.

Create more ways to crossover the interstate that aren't at interchanges.
Connect more streets all the way through instead of a bunch of chopped up streets that start and stop randomly to take some pressure off the surface streets.
Also, standardize the names of the street so the same street doesn't have 3 or 4 different names depending on what part of town you're in.
Synchronize the lights and strictly enforce laws against "blocking the box."

1. get all the uninsured drivers off the road.
2. build another bridge south of baton rouge
3.add two lanes to I-10 to new orleans and laffy.
4. fix the washington st exit debacle

No trains. No light rail. One passenger per car.

The Katy Freeway in Houston is the widest in the world with 26 lanes, and there's still traffic.

I'd take the money and run, sorry but you can't fix bad drivers and a large part of the traffic is due to retards on the roads.

I am also assuming I can use eminent domain...
1) fricking finish I-49 between Lafayette and NO
2) Make La 3127 four lanes all the way from Luling through D-ville and put a spur to the south of La. Hwy 1 to continue it and meet up with the 4 lane of La. 1 in White Castle (widen Hwy 1 from Donaldsonville to WC as well). Four lane the road from the Grammercy bridge to 3127. Upgrade (and add a lane to) Highway 1 from there and then run a, interstate grade "bypass" from south of Plaquemine up to I-10 between Lobdell and Grosse Tete exits.
3) This will meet up with the spur coming down from upgraded 190 (interstate upgrade from "old" bridge to between Erwinville and Livonia), after doing a similar "Huey P. Long" upgrade to the old bridge as was done to the Huey in NO and converting Airline to a limited access interstate from I-12 to the 190 bridge [the "inner loop" plan from a few years ago].
4) Put a bridge across the Mississippi that would meet up with La. Highway 74 in St. Gabriel and tie that into the Hwy 1/3127 system noted above. Widen 74 from SG all the way to I-10 and build entrance/exit ramps similar to I-310 at that overpass.
This should take care of BR traffic for a long while, and also make evacuations and transportation of freight much more efficient.

I am amazed at people most days.
Let me ask - Where 110 and i10 merge together heading south, why do all of the people coming from i10 need to switch over to the middle lane? The lane they're in doesn't end.. there are no left exits.. the interstate doesn't split again for a long time.. so why?!
Every single day, I have to slow almost to a stop at that merge (I'm on 110 coming from downtown) and literally the only reason is because when the two interstates merge together, every single person swaps lanes for zero reason.

I would imagine that it's an attempt to not have to merge later for when they want to get to I-12.

Driving through traffic circles needs to be a requisite for getting a license, the amount of incompetence I see with people flying through traffic circles tells me that it needs to be emphasized more.

North loop and widen bridges.
A south loop would be prohibitive despite unlimited funding because it's wet and traversing wetlands requires a lot more regulatory activity than not.

Which would be fine if that was anywhere in the near future. It's not for a very long time though. I guess I just don't understand why you wouldn't stay in your own nicely-flowing lane and get over as space allows. These folks will come to a complete stop trying to switch over immediately during the merge, and it pretty much the sole cause for the awful traffic on 110 coming up to the merge.

When I pass that way, I switch over 2 lanes all the way to the left. The reason? Too many slow fricks in the right lane and there will be numerous people exiting off or getting on. frick that. The left lane is open through. The middle lane will have people deciding where they want to go. Left or exit? Im in the left lane to roll on through if I can at 70mph.

But do you come to a stop or slow traffic down to get over? Or are you getting over whenever space allows?
It is the former that happens to me daily and makes me want to go on a murder rampage
What's funny is by the time all of you people get over into the middle and left lanes, the right lane is nearly empty and not slow at all.

Making airline into an actual highway with no stop lights would be a good start I think. Widen the bridge. Maybe build another bridge to the south that loops up to I-10 in WBR

No I dont. If the person in front of me is doing 60, I will be on his arse looking to get in the left lane. If Im stopped its because the a-hole in front of me is stopped.

if funding was not an issue, what would you do to deal with traffic issues in Baton Rouge?
If you want to solve a lot of this city's problems in one fell swoop, just give an IQ test. If you're in the bottom half, pack your shite and leave or else.

I would imminent domain a metric sh&t ton of houses and put down a real road grid.
I would rename tons of streets so that they were consistent in name from beginning to end.
I would add 2 lanes from I-10 East from the bridge to College Drive, and 1 lane from College to the split. I would add a lane in each direction from Highland Road to LA 30.
Finish I-49 from NOLA to Lafayette.
I would make Lee/Brightside 5 lanes wide along its entire route from River Road to Perkins Road.
I would Extend Ben Hur so that it connects with Highland Road at Sunset Blvd. Sunset would be extended over Bayou Duplantier all the way to Congress. Then, an overpass would connect Congress to Citiplace and/or Bocage Lakes. (Richards lane and Bocage Lakes Court would be connected, as would Woodstock & Rue Bocage and Boyce Dr. & Fountain Lane. There would be no more single entrance/exit subdivisions in King Bob's Baton Rouge. A connecting street grid would be the end at all costs!)
O'Neil would be 4-laned along its entire stretch and be extended to connect to Antioch @ Tigerbend. Antioch would be extended all the way to Berringer Foreman and even Perkins on the other side of the interstate. Perkins on the Blue Bayou side of the interstate would meet up with this Antioch Extension as well. Pecan Shadows would connect Perkins to Highland, meet back up with Highland Crossing via a redesigned intersection, and then run all the way around the back side of CCLA, over Bayou Manchac, and connect to Alligator Bayou Road.
Jones Creek would be extended to Barringer Rd as well as somehow meet up with Boress Dr. on the opposite end of the I-12.
I would ensure Airline is at least 6 lanes wide from Gonzales all the way across to LA 415, adding an extra lane in each direction to the Old Bridge.
I would add interchanges to I-10 at Pecue, Bluff/Perkins, LA 74, Cornerview, and a dedicated Tanger Outlet Malls exit onto Robert Wilson, while connecting it via overpass to Orice Roth.
I would 4-lane river road again between Florida & St. Ferdinand.
I would extend Highland Road to make it loop around to connect with Elliot Road, Tiger Bend & Woodlake Dr.
I would 4-lane with turn lanes the entire length of Highway 30.
I would 4-lane LA 42, LA 70, LA 22, and LA 431.
I would 4-lane the entire stretch of Old Hammond Hwy. I would 4-lane S. Harrels Ferry past O'Neil and build a bridge over the Amite connecting it to 4-H Club road with a connector to LA 16 and Wax Rd.
I would extend Kennilworth to Nicholson and have it intersect River Road near Ben Hur. I would then extend Kennelworth over Perkins to run behind the hospitals, over both interstates, and connect it with McCarrol Drive, which would (via lots of bulldozing and reorganizing) be connected eventually with Airport Dr.
I would build a new 6 lane wide bridge at Plaquemine Point. This bridge would connect with the Western Loop (an extended LA 415) and LA 77. The Southern Loop would cur through Manchac Swamp, intersecting I-10 near Bluff Road. It would then run parallel to 42 and cross the Amite north of Port Vincent with an exit to Hoo Shoo Too Road (providing another bridge over Bayou Manchac). The west loop would run between Walker and Satsuma, and the north loop would run north of Denham, eventually meeting up with the Huey P. Long Bridge.
LA 415 would not only extend to the Plaquimine Bridge, but would actually extend all the way to LA 3127, and be 4 lanes all the way to I-310. This would be your Wank Expressway.
Put down a high speed & commuter rail system connecting Baton Rouge, New Orleans, Covington, Biloxi, Lake Charles, Lafayette, the Texas Triangle, and beyond.
The commuter has stops at Mid City BR, the hospital district, Blue Bayou, Gonzales, LaPlace, MSY, Zephyr, and the CBD.
There would be streetcar routes within BR (not in the traffic lanes) going down Nicholson from Laberge to Downtown, from Downtown down Government/Florida to a redeveloped (though not as a shopping mall) Cortana (this would connect with the commuter/ high speed rail station on government street at the entergy building), a line connecting the entergy building to Exxon, the Airport, Southern, & the Zoo, and finally a route connecting Laberge to Cortana which intersects with the commuter train near the Hospital district, giving access to Perkins Rowe, the Mall of Louisiana, Costco/Celtic Studios, & Hammond Aire.
That should get us started.
