What is the kayaking like
Coastal Washington and Alaska are pretty much the apex of saltwater kayaking.

Yeah. Samaritans Purse has put alot of money into the school so there are a surprising large number of young families.
People are talking about kayaking, so I wanted to post a link to this video. I think most of the footage in this video is in Lake Clark. One of the areas is around Denali from what I understand. Frontier of First

Do they have kayak setups to fish salmon?

Conveniences such as? We don't have stores or restaurants (we do have a food truck that serves hamburgers and milkshakes that is open for about 4 months). I can order groceries online and they will usually arrive the next day. Amazon takes 10 days or so. The village I live in is part of this Park. Home Sweet Home
Stores, restaurants, easy access to healthcare and other services, delivery services etc. It's certainly a beautiful area and I can appreciate people who enjoy the isolation and wilderness.
I'm not really a big city fan much anymore but I'd still like to live somewhere near a half decent sized town for that type of stuff.

A friend of mine told me it's the best in the world in the Northwest

Yep.
Southeast Ak is in the Alexander Archipelago, also called the Inside Passage of over 1,100 islands. Salmon galore, trout, halibut, cod, crab, 20 million acres of public land to explore. Kayaking is awesome because the islands protect you from the ocean swells.
Not uncommon to kayak around humpbacks, orcas and even bear..

Mrs jkyle and I are strongly considering a move once my stepkids are out of the house and off to college . Would be a little different than central Louisiana I'd assume.
A lot different. More lawful. You won’t like the winters just as you probably don’t like our summers.

Juneau has all of that stuff and I rarely use it.
I like Haines AK because all of the restaurants, etc are within walking distance of anywhere in town.

The caveat is that I own a hundred acres in the mountains where I can have a greenhouse to grow vegetables
Yeah, vegetables, sure.

Montana - I've been to all 3. Wyoming is windy af, Idaho just seems to be getting overrun with Calitransplants, Montana seems to be the spot that everyone is hesitant to go. Cheap land, plenty of wildlife to sustain your own home, beautiful country.

So the part of Wyoming that is a little slice of San Francisco?
well the rest of Wyoming is basically Kansas, so

My grandparents live in Anacortes up by the San Juan islands, I picture most of Alaska as a better version of that. Unreal outdoors that even Northeast U.S. and B.C. can't even hang with.
You get portions of the salmon run where the entire stream is red but it still can't hang.

We go out to eat or get takeout about once per week. I don't want to drive an hour on Sunday to go grab some seafood or steaks and bottle of wine for dinner. There's nothing that I care about anymore that can't be found in a town of 25k though.
I liked big cities when I was younger but living in urban Houston or Atlanta at this point is pretty unappealing to me.

I'll be at Red Fish for my sister's wedding in September. It's my favorite area of the country.
