Not sure I could pick one.

Allied: P-40 for Chennault connection
Axis: Focke Wolfe 190 a4
Bomber: Dauntless
That era was truly a golden age. So many planes were bad arse.

As great a plane as the Mustang was, 1v1 the SpitFire could fly rings around the P-51. It just couldn't fly as far or shoot as long.

I'm looking at a copy of my dad's radio school certificate, dated July 8, 1943, certifying him to be a radioman on a PBY. He received his cert at the Naval air station in Corpus Christi.

When I was a kid, he used to take me out of the Naval air station in New Orleans to look at old WW II planes, including a couple PBY's.
