And your spouse was really pushing for one school, and wasn't really letting your child make their own choice, how would you feel about this? Would it depend on what school they were pushing for?

My take it whoever is paying tuition has the final say.

18 year olds don't know enough to make this choice on their own.

Tell your husband to help your adopted son make the right decision. Based on his parents, seems like Texas A&M is the right fit, but let him decide that.

Idk didn’t marry close minded trash.
But personally I would be scared of the shiny pitches. So I would make a list of all the schools that my child was in and create a spreadsheet so that we could compare their options that were important to the child.

If my child is good enough to play D1 sports, he can go wherever he wants. Kids should get to make the decision for themselves. Unless he picks Alabama, then I'll put my foot down.

Its about input/guidance. Guiding on the right criteria not alumni love.

For example, say one of my boys get recruited by LSU and Stanford, Notre Dame, etc.

I hate to say it, but I'm pointing out the benefits of the two non-LSU schools. I'm I "pushing" him? No. He makes that decision.

FTR, LSU=Bama=FL=etc.

if I was a kid good enough for d1 I would be too busy thanking god for the ability he gave me and that I wont end up like colin Campbell. just go with the school your dominant parent wants because it could be worse.

I chose LSU over Bama. My cousin played for Bama (lettered 4 years & NFL). Most of my south AL kin are Bama alum.....they were not pleased.

Indoctrination has to be done early

Pressure exerted later might be rebelled against

Recruiters would hate me,
because i would give them a list of questions like
what is average act score:
what is average starting salary of whatever degree my kid was interested in:
what percentage of players have their original athletic scholarship for the full time they are in school. meaning how likely are they to pull it.
it would go on and on and you wouldn't be allowed correspondence with my child until it was completed. also all the answers would be hard answers, and only directly to the questions.
