Yep. Garden in summer, greenhouse in winter. All the seafood you need, deer, bear.. and moose in some areas.

Speaking as a farmer from one of those remote places I'd like nothing more than to see a truck full of wannabes roll through. You'd all be easy pickings and dead within the week if anarchy truly broke out. No one can out-bandit the locals.

Back on topic I'd get medicine and ammunition. Everything else can be easily gotten via foraging and stealing (if need be) later. I'd probably hunker down somewhere quiet for the first few days while things shook out and then work on stockpiling as much food as possible. The woods and waterways would be cleaned out quickly and the first winter without grocery stores is going to see a whole lot of folks starve. You'd likely see as many or more deaths from that and malnutrition related diseases than violence.

You think the materials necessary during a SHTF scenario will be more available to continue this in Alaska or the lower 48?

You would get killed by wasting all your time trying to find a girl who wouldn’t give you any.

Drive into town and pick up a friend from my old coke running days. Bring him and his arsenal out to the farm for protection. He saved my life in Colombia, so the least I could do is help him out. Plus, he has a LOT of weaponry.

Maybe pick up some fresh ammo, old liquor, and a couple of close family members on the way back. Then, it'd be business as usual for this cowboy. Except I'd probably go ahead and move my grow operation outdoors to conserve electricity.

Any of you sumbitches get the idea to come over for a neighborly visit, you'd better do it in broad daylight while waving a white flag.

You seem very unknowledgeable about Alaska. I could easily find the materials locally to provide shelter, even power.

We also have our own grid In JNU

Bear is either nasty or tolerable. Makes a good sausage or chili though.

Moose is where it's at.

I didn't ask about shelter or power.

Are necessities more or less available in an isolated environment was my question.

Bear is horrible. I would eat it if I had to.

True, but things like fuel availability do come into play - you have to have enough to get there, get back and have a reserve - with no idea when or where fuel will be available again.

Folks like to talk a good game, but I've lived through some worst case scenarios - like Hurricane Katrina. There is simply no way to fully prepare, even psychologically, for a complete breakdown of civilization, much less materially when right now - the average American (even in Alaska) is less than 15, 20 minutes from a drug store and supermarket that has literally every possible need for next to nothing. With that gone, imagine all the shite you might need and have to either make, scrounge, improvise or go without if the SHTF.

People would still need my services so I'd stay open and barter for services rendered.

absolutely. in a situation like this, you want to be as far removed from the shite as possible. find a piece of land that has as small access to the outside as possible that provides a natural source of food and water and the only thing you would need to stock up on during the 24 hours prior to the shite hitting the fan would be medicine

thats the perfect scenario

Let me know how generating electricity with your walking works out. You just associate gas with cars when it actually runs much more important things.

Waste of time. Just write a bunch of bad checks or run up your credit.

I'd buy a new heavy duty truck for sure. And more guns and ammo. Stock up on non perishable foods and staple items like flour. Head out to rural area in the Midwest where there is good hunting/fishing. I wouldn't stay in the south because it's too densely populated even in rural areas. You'd want to be in the mountains or plains where human interaction is minimal

Actuality now that I think about it, you'd want to steal a giant ocean faring yacht with both a motor and a sail. Stock it with water, non-perishable foods, ammunition, and gasoline. Then just live like a pirate. Find a secluded island as a base of operations.

I've thought of this as well
