Me, wife, kid, dog...

Athens, Georgia in the quiet, convenient, historic, trendy, uppity Boulevard neighborhood.

(ETA it's the neighborhood Michael Stipe lives in)

Yep. This or Sonoma

$250k isn't going very far in that vicinity. I don't even think you could buy a trailer for less than %500k.

Yes it is. It could afford you a nice home around 1800 or so sq ft

You can get very nice houses in that price range. I priced them out a month or so ago.

Plus yearly COL adjustments.

. I would love Montana, Wyoming, etc but dont know I could handle the winters forever.

If you're in a valley town in MT, especially Missoula, the winters are no worse than CO, imo. This winter was particularly awesome in Missoula. So many powder days 20 min drive up mountain and very mild weather in the valley. Many days where I skied and ran (in shorts) same day.

With 250k, you are brining home about 13k a month NET (that is with 401k and health also taken out)

That is plenty for a nice little house in Nappa/Sonoma

I'd probably buy this lighthouse in Sitka Sound. Lots of people buy islands there and build homes, but I dig this lighthouse.

It's probably less than a 10 minute skiff ride to town.

Do I have to pay for housing with 250k? Because if so that's a big consideration for some of these places.

While I'd love to go somewhere more "exotic," I'd probably pick Cashiers or something similar.

Sitka Sound is a really awesome place. You've got a dormant volcano, huge mountains, sea, islands...

They don't do mass tourism like many of the towns around here.

Don't let the word out on Dulac.

I do like a camp I stay at there.

There is not a pretentious soul in the entire town.

These come to mind:

Carmel, CA
Jackson, WY
Telluride, CO
San Juan Islands, WA (maybe Orcas Island)

May have to rent or put most of net worth/savings into housing though for Carmel & Jackson.

I’m happy where I am, I’m too embedded in my roots to not live in South Louisiana, BUT, with $250k a year, I’d have a condo somewhere between gulf shores and Panama City, preferably on a bay for my boats, would spend non peak warm weather months there.
