I’m an engineer and love doing engineering. But there is too much bullshite to maneuver around to actually be an engineer.

Solid plan. Go 3-9 two seasons in a row, collect buyout and you're set for life.

Trades for sure. Plumbing wins out, I think, in that there's a decent possibility most of your work can be done in A/C spaces until you start running your own trucks, where other people are sweating most of the time.
HVAC = F attics.
Electrical = attics and fish tape, or right after framing.
Plumbing = put Vicks in your nose, and pretend like you didn't judge deuces in your own toilet bowl for the first 30 years of your life, while staring at someone else's turd.

Chemical engineer in plant operations management. Worked 20 years outside US and enjoyed every minute. I would do it exactly the same given another chance.

If I could do it again, I'd do it the same.

Why be an architect when you can be a city planner ?

Your misfortune did give me a chuckle though

I’d be like Jim Cantore, getting paid to storm chase and predict the weather, if practicality were no object.
