Everyone goes to a big city in a different state; they always get caught. Small towns, ideally small towns out of the country.

Lot's of variables.
You have to immediately either get far away, or go to ground for an extended period of time.
You obviously don't have an ID or a passport or likely money. You can't contact any close friends or relatives.
You either have to commit some crimes to get some traveling money, or perhaps you have an old friend or relative that would help you out, that is far enough in the past that the cops are not monitoring them.
I would probably stay in rural America for a while until the heat died down and then try to get to Central or South America, or perhaps the Caribbean.

Depends on the town. Tons of towns in the world rely on a transient, seasonal workforce. Easy to slip in.
