If time is a river
Nah, baw. Time is an ocean.
Hope is an anchor and love is a ship
Time is the ocean and life is a trip
You don't know where you're going
'Til you know where you're at
And if you can't read the stars
Well, you'd better have a map,
A compass, and a conscience
So you don't get lost at sea
Or on some old lonely island
Where no one wants to be

OP trying to be deep, but he’s just paraphrasing Garth Brooks.

The book is outstanding. Written by Norm Maclean.
"At sunrise everything is luminous but not clear. It is those we live with and love and should know who elude us. You can love completely without complete understanding."

I think Kamala can enlighten us on this topic.

“Empty your mind. Be formless. Shapeless. Like water. You put water into a cup, it becomes the cup. You put water into a bottle, it becomes the bottle. You put it in a teapot, it becomes the teapot. Water can flow, or it can crash. Be water, my friend.”

There's the head of the river, the mouth, and points in between.
Those represent birth, life, and death.

Time just keeps on slipping, slipping into the future.

Time keeps flowing like river.

This past week has been really hard. It seems to be getting worse. I read somewhere that grief typically peaks around month three or four so I have a ways to go. The thing I miss most is just talking to her.
I was in your shoes 10 years ago. For me the worst was about 3 months in. For her two last weeks in the hospital I was tough as nails, because I had to be. It slowly fell apart after that, though I was doing my best to hold together. 3 months later I was working a project on the road and it started to rain while I was driving. When I couldn't figure out how to use the windshield wipers in a car I'd driven for 10 years I knew it was time to pack up and head home. I wish I had good news for you. It will gradually get better after you bottom, whenever that is. Everybody is different. I just white knuckled it, though I know people who did therapy and/or went on drugs. To me the worst part was not having her there to talk to, and the loss of all those shared memories. I guess the idea I clung on to was that the worst thing that would ever happen to me was in my rear view mirror and moving away.
I've had zero desire to date in the last 10 years. Not after what I had. But I do enjoy life. To me this is the inconsequential bonus round of life where I'm free to do anything and everything. I guess that is my advice, think about the things you've always wanted to do, and then go out and do them, especially the stupid ones. And say frick you to the universe while you do it, with a grin on your face. Actually, I had the foresight to plan a Costa Rica trip from the hospital for 6 months down the road, because I knew I'd need it. Travel became my release and escape. I've always had 2 or 3 booked trips to look forward to.

I agree. Travel is good for the soul. If you’re retired, just pack up a few things, pick a direction and go! Even better would be a used RV. Not a $200,000 one. You can get good used ones for 10K. Take back roads too. Interstates are too sterile and you go through areas too fast. Go the road less traveled so to speak.
And if you do the RV thing, get a dog if you don’t have one. You can foster one if you don’t want to make the full commitment.
You don’t know what’s out there unless you go look for yourself.
