Well said. If only the “back in my day” idiots knew how ignorant they sound

Well, to be fair, the generation just prior to the WWII generation had it pretty rough. Many were born during Reconstruction, dealt with WWI, and the Great Depression. I can give them a pass for looking at the kids with a jaded eye.

That said, in general your statement is true. But we may have a real change now though. We have boys dressing as girls and claiming it's cool and makes them enlightened. I have always said that our DNA is the same as the WWI, WWII, Vietnam and subsequent generations. So I think the raw potential is still there and same as always. But I do think we have more cultural roadblocks right now, in terms of building toughness.

Go frick yourself. Seriously, Boomers fought and died in Vietnam. It was the older generation at the time that fricked up Vietnam.

ETA: I do think that the current generation, just like every one before them, would step up and do the job.

in a total war, technology would be far more valuable than boots. I don't know how many people would be needed unless there was somehow an invasion on US soil, which would mean our Air and Naval superiority had been defeated.

The US could single-handedly beat China and Russia in a world war if it unleashed it's entire might and held nothing back. Subduing those populaces after all their infrastructure was destroyed would take lots of soldiers, but why would we do that?

1. I don't think there will ever be another major military conflict like we saw in the 20th Century. The future of war is in cyberspace.

2. No, of course not. People are pussies nowadays and the military is run by bureaucrats and women.

I just can't imagine we will ever see combat like we have in the past. Sending thousands of soldiers to attack a beach or to take a field. I don't think people have the stomach for that type of carnage or that young soldiers today would do it. It isn't militarily necessary..

Would today's stars step up like the Ted Williams and Jimmy Stewart's of the day did?

Sure, I could George Clooney, Sean Penn, Colin Kaepernick, Eric Reid in Russian or Chinese uniforms.

People walk out of graduations if they didn’t vote for a speaker. We would be screwed.

The USA has a history of not being in the best shape just prior to war. We were pretty pathetic just before WWI, WWII, and Korea. We adapt and kick arse eventually though.

My dad passed a week ago and he served in Korea ... he never talked about it much just he hoped there would be no more wars but if one did break out that young men would step up and protect their country

I might receive a lot of heat for this, but whatever-

Almost 2/3 of WWII vets were drafted/conscripted.

Over 2/3 of Vietnam vets enlisted.

Just last night the subject of required military draft was brought up on talk show. I've commented here before and still support it. To answer your question, I have grave doubts.
