Rich people don't fight wars boy. That's for the poor.

They are for men with balls and a sense of responsibility to country.

Which obviously excludes the ignorant draft dodging, pussy of a conman living off daddy's money.

we will never need a civilian army as was needed during past conflicts. 100,000 troops are more useless than 1 aircraft so why would we throw human lives away in that way?

It's the opposite unless there is a great mismatch in technology.

If a WWIII broke out it would not be fought like traditional wars. The demand for man power will not be as high.

Don't really agree with that. Disregarding Trump entirely, Vietnam has shown to have been a total unqualified disaster. I wouldn't have gone either if I was in their spot. I'm not going to fight and die against people that haven't done a damn thing to me so some rich assholes in power can try to control the world.

Call it being a pussy if you want. I call it not being foolish to go run off in a nationalistic dream for some bullshite reason that doesn't effect me of my family in the slightest.

I’d argue that will is the component most missing.

Look at the mongols. They had the tech, sure. But the most valuable asset they had was the will to do what they did. The ruthlessness. The drive to destroy.

We can’t have a real, total war today with the ROE and the media front like they are now. Don’t have the stomach for real conquest.

Would the present day in their prime generation step up. In a similar way as the "greatest generation" did.

Yes it is

No, it isn't. It's more like 15%.

While military spending is a little over 50% of discretionary spending, a full 66% of the federal budget is non-discretionary. This includes Social Security, Medicare/Medicaid, Veterans benefits and debt service payments. Those things are outside the ability for Congress to budget on an annual basis.

It is true that the U.S. pays more than all other countries combined on the military.

You can't ignore all the mandatory spending in your calculation.

All that said, if we were to get into a shooting war with Russia or China directly, it would likely go nuclear rather quickly, meaning the draft would be pointless. Plenty of the next generation are already stepping up. The rest, if they survived the missile volleys, would have to figure out how to live in a world none of us would recognize.

Cheers.
