If the major concern is overwhelming our hospitals, why are MASH units not everywhere?

The only reason for the mass shutdowns and other actions that are destroying our economy is the beloved "curve" we hear so much about.

We don't want to overwhelm our hospitals and other medical services. I somewhat agree with this, although other countries are taking different routes.

So, the only thing keeping us from just weathering the storm doing business as usual is basically hospital beds and ventilators?

All of the recent pandemics, except Ebola which was regional and contained quickly, have been flu-like respiratory type illnesses.

Hopefully, this will be a cautionary tale for the future. The government should have massive temporary hospitals ready to be deployed by the military at a moment's notice. Enough to take on virtually all of the pandemic patients, which would leave the hospitals free to mostly care for others.

It's not too late for this to happen with Coronavirus. I'm sure the military has MASH units capable of thousands of beds sitting in storage somewhere.

Why are these not being rolled out? And if they are, why are we not being told about it?
