Appalachia has a beauty the rest of the country doesn’t have. It also has rampant poverty due to the death of coal mines and geography that makes it hard to be good for manufacturing.
NC is interesting because you have the Smoky Mountains and the Outer Banks, with a whole lot of boring terrain in between.
