I get your general sentiment. I have been in the concrete industry for over 21 years. Been in every aspect of it - from place/finish grunt to different positions at producers over the last 2 plus decades. It is not for everyone - probably like plumbing - but I don't know that I could do anything else at this point. And I feel like I make a really good living doing what I love.

I'll do it if I can drink on the job.

A lot of people say that but the only trade I’d be into would be electrician. It’s not dirty, not intense manual labor, not in the elements generally

I'm a plumber. There is nothing glamorous about it. Nasty work, long hours, dealing with the weather, HARD physical work. Zero benefits, no retirement no health insurance, nothing. My body has aged well past its years at this point.
On top of all that, trades companies are being bought up by private equity and becoming unbearable.
Union up.

Surprised we’ve gotten to Page 4 without the three axioms of Plumbing being posted:
1) shite flows downhill
2) Payday's on Friday
3) Don’t chew your nails
First heard this from the self-made principal of a huge MEC.

Says someone that's never been working on wiring in a 100 year old building in a Louisiana summer.

Yeah, no. There's plenty of dirty and hard work in that too, and most jobs I've been on are out in the elements.
I am shovel certified.

PE's general game plan is to run off the "high" paid senior workers and hire kids out of highschool. They still bill out the same to the customer of course.
This guy gets it. I think the company I work for right now is gearing up to sell. We have a bunch of guys with very little experience. The more experienced guys get cut first.

Master plumber can make some serious money though

I'm a plumber. I have full benefits, retirement, etc. I also went to college, and have worked a white collar desk job and fricking hated it. I absolutely love plumbing. Plumbing doesn't suck, it's your shitty attitude OP and apparently you work for a shitty shop as well. That's on you.
You are right about one thing though....the grass isn't always greener on the other side. Sitting at a desk, reading/writing emails, conference calls, district meetings, arse kissing, corporate HR bullshite....frick all that.

When did I say plumbing sucks? I enjoy troubleshooting and turning wrenches. I never once complained about that. It's all the other bullshite that comes along with modern trade companies that sucks. Everything I said is true.

White collars will always live rent free in the tradies mind smh

Sometimes the grass is greener because of a sewage problem.

I think everyone always thinks other peoples jobs are easy. Until you worked their job you really don’t know.

Did the plumber have his way with your wife?

This is the most idiotic thing I have heard in a while - you are full of shite. I don't know many painting, glass, windows, general contracting, HVAC, roofers, electrical, plumbing, etc getting bought out by anyone and I have been in this entire industry for over 30 years
It’s most certainly occurring.
