Wait till the state reps get some balls to lower the 50k jury threshold so it won't be worth it to take a case (that is most likely bullshite anyway) that has to go to trial to sue the insurance companies for 5k.

No I don't have anything to do with insurance companies.

(4) In addition to costs of court and expenses of litigation, a lawyer may provide financial assistance to a client who is in necessitous circumstances, subject however to the following restrictions.

(i) Upon reasonable inquiry, the lawyer must determine that the client’s necessitous circumstances, without minimal financial assistance, would adversely affect the client’s ability to initiate and/or maintain the cause for which the lawyer’s services were engaged.

(ii) The advance or loan guarantee, or the offer thereof, shall not be used as an inducement by the lawyer, or anyone acting on the lawyer’s behalf, to secure employment.

(iii) Neither the lawyer nor anyone acting on the lawyer’s behalf may offer to make advances or loan guarantees prior to being hired by a client, and the lawyer shall not publicize nor advertise a willingness to make advances or loan guarantees to clients.

(iv) Financial assistance under this rule may provide but shall not exceed that minimum sum necessary to meet the client’s, the client’s spouse’s, and/or dependents’ documented obligations for food, shelter, utilities, insurance, non-litigation related medical care and treatment, transportation expenses, education, or other documented expenses necessary for subsistence.

That happens all the time in Texas and it’s very common the insurance defense blows it at trial. Juries are unpredictable.

Could be wrong but I thought the advance stuff has kind of slowed a bit? A lot of states are starting to regulate the third party finance companies as well.

We don't communicate with third party finance companies because it could be seen as aiding them in making loans to our clients that are above the acceptable interest rate.

We document the shite out of bills for advances, but I can imagine some other folks play more loosely with it.

In South Louisiana, on the average, on the whole, a client will ask for an advance from day one. I never gave loans when I worked in that field. More than a few prospective clients immediately walked out the door when I informed them of my position.

You're not triggering me in the least. I just think it's a little ridiculous that of all the BS here on a daily basis, you're holding on to that so tightly. I must've made it to the big leagues of the OT.

You started a thread saying you were too busy with your job to teach your kid how to ride his bike yet you post babe threads everyday. It's just funny.

next 5-10 years and auto accidents plummet.

I know driverless vehicles are here and will eventually take over but mass adoption is probably is definitely further away than 5 years. I would say 20 years or more, the push back and all the disruption it will cause will slow down the adoption. People lost their shite when the Uber car ran over that lady last year.

The technology will be there well before that though.

if you do well, you do really well as a personal injury attorney.

I have some friends that are solo or in small firms that do mostly personal injury stuff. They barely survive. And they hate it.

Hell I know a ton of lawyers and I have to say they generally hate the law. I can only think of two lawyer friends that truly love the law. Most of them feel conned about becoming a lawyer.

all of this.

my wife and a few of my closest friends are attorneys. they all hate it.

PI attorneys are a dime a dozen. it's relatively easy work, but, as was alluded to by another poster, you mainly deal with losers (your clients), and spend your day arguing with insurance adjusters.

Most PI attorneys are doing small value car crashes, and rely on volume to make money.

All that said, there is big, big money in PI for those that handle high value cases.

So people just get in wrecks, go get a lawyer, and immediately ask for an advance. It's worse than I thought I guess.
