To someone in the know - If an 85 year old man with terminal lung cancer dies after being diagnosed with Covid - is that automatically assumed to be a Covid death and not a lung cancer death?

If so, why is this being done?

In Sweden, if a person dies of anything within 30 days of testing positive for SARS-CoV-2, it counts as a CoviD death...from what I've seen.

I don’t know in that scenario, but apparently there’s been some people coming into hospitals with gunshot wounds and dying of Covid.

IIRC it being done for $39K, or $13K, I'll need some help with the number.
I read that a CV patient has no limit, no out of pocket expenses. Gov makes insurance company pick up the tab.
No link, some guy in Colorado in hospital for 60 days with CV got a $1.3MM bill. Insurance covered the entire cost, by fed mandate.

There was that guy in Colorado that died of alcohol poisoning, but tested positive for SARS 2.0, which caused them to count him as a SARS death.

That actually made Colorado change the way they reported deaths, though.

I think it's related to healthcare compensation.....but why is it structured this way?

We are right to point out that China lies about their numbers. But we are putting out misleading numbers too if we are counting EVERY death of a person that tested positive (or even suspected) as a Covid death.

Not if you fall off a building.

This topic was worn out weeks ago.

Yes.

Some would say it is because the government wants to increase the number of deaths. The probable reason is that in some cases, it is difficult to know what *officially* triggered the death. If someone with terminal cancer was also diagnosed COVID-19, and dies - did the COVID-19 accelerate the death? As a medical professional, you would have to say that COVID-19 was a contributor, although the patient would have died anyway. I think they just standardized it to take out any ambiguity - if you have it and die, you died from COVID-19. Since it is the government, there is no room for critical thinking and determinations - like this guy was in a car accident, died and had COVID-19. Obviously, he died from the impact of the accident, not COVID-19. The Federal Government does not want the data to be interpreted on a local level.

Well if the covid wore him out so badly that the lung cancer was able to take him, I would think covid is at least a contributing factor.

Yep, a very liberal count, for sure.

Norway, or one of those other countries out that way, isn't counting deaths outside of hospitals. So, not counting long-term care facilities. No wonder their numbers are so low...

However, keep those facts in mind whenever the media tries to compare numbers between countries, tells you that Sweden made a terrible choice, or says Sweden has performed worse than its neighbors.

(Again, from information I've seen online. No in depth research there.)
