Real answer is Lower Garden District --- really good food/drink options including very close to most of the best beer in the City, walkable/bikeable to downtown, warehouse district and lower magazine, can walk from Steins to Courtyard in 15 minutes, good transit (St. Charles streetcar, Magazine bus, even tchoup bus). Also still some decent rental housing in the area.
or
Bayou St. John general area --- improving food/drink options, easy drive/transit trip to downtown, greenway great biking option, the bayou is a great hang spot.

Uptown is a lot of fun. It’s safe unless you’re just a dumb arse and do stupid shite. I would definitely suggest Uptown/Irish Channel. You’ll enjoy it.

In 2018, NOLA had the lowest number of murders in more than half a century. They are well on their way to having to even lower number in 2019. And yes, shootings are down also.
I live in and love New Orleans but this is kinda dumb.
In 2019 Bill Clinton raped fewer people than he did in 2018 and Bill Clinton rapes have been trending downward for 10 yrs. So I guess send your daughter on a yacht with Bill Clinton.

Well, when you're right, you're right.

lived on old Metairie road for over a year. It was awesome. I don’t know what constitutes as boring to people when it comes to living somewhere. You’re 10 minutes away from everything.
Do people walk around and go out drinking every night of the week or something?

but mid city is probably the most realistic alternative for most people.

Irish Channel is the way to go. Cheaper than the Garden District, and they’re basically the same thing. The only reason the Irish Channel is cheaper than the GD is that it’s on the Tchoup side of Magazine instead of the St. Charles side

I’d rather be in warehouse or CBD

This. You get most of the pluses of the city w/o anything of the negatives.

Old Metairie and just take an Uber when you go out.
Less chances of getting shot.
I'm sure lots will balk at this especially with Old Metairie's ever rising prices making this more and more difficult.
But I lived the latter half of my 20s in the neighborhood around the Old Metairie Village Shopping Center (where Langenstein's is located) near the 17th Street Canal north of Metairie Rd.
Pros
- That spot has a bank, post office, doctor's office, multiple coffee shops, grocery, pharmacy, many restaurants, etc. all within walking or biking distance
- Safer than you'll ever get within Orleans without being dirty filthy rich
- Metairie Rd. has almost everything you'd need
- Fast access to downtown via Canal St. (less than 15min to Canal@NRampart), fast access to Mid-City via City Park Ave., fast access to Jefferson via I10@Bonnabel ramp, fast access to anywhere in Orleans via I10@Canal ramp -- enjoy never dealing with I-10/610 split since you have your choice of ramps
Cons
- Don't host crazy parties because JPSO don't play
- Probably best not to play with drugs around here because JPSO don't play
- Miss out on NOLA life experience of getting robbed because JPSO don't play

Great list and I can add you deal with a competent JP parish utility system instead of the train wreck of OP. You will not have to worry about your home flooding bc of a rain event (OM does have some street flooding issues but that clears quickly when rain stops) or paying crazy amount with extremely poor customer service for your water/sewage/garbage.

Young and single and you choose New Orleans to live?
New Orleans is an awesome place to live for a young single person. Young family, maybe not but Nola is probably top 5 places for a young person, assuming you have a job. If you are from around here and already have a network, it’s even better.
The city has its problems and but is a fun place to live without a doubt. Some of y’all are just ridiculous with the hate.
Many areas of Uptown, WD, CBD and even some areas of mid city would be great, depending on what you like to do and how close you want to be for work.

I disagree, but NOLA just insnt my scene for more than a week or so at a time. And I'm not talking about just going to party for a week

For you.
It depends on what you want. You prefer a different city, but I would say more younger people would enjoy new orleans better.
