It is possible it was used one time to describe someones game. But it simply isnt tennis lingo like Adler would like people to believe in the article.
It doesn't fricking matter if it was never used at all. The point is that it's not the word gorilla, and the NYT is too goddamned stupid to know the difference.

Jesus Christ, Chicken. We seriously can't say that word?

Touche. The statement makes absolutely no sense though, whereas 'guerrilla attack' does, and is an actual thing.

If you believe that then STFU about it. You are just arguing to argue. Sorry but no cares about your lack luster tennis career, after which you subsequently deemed yourself master of all Tennis terms.

Doesn't want to offend the wrong crowd. How dare we use a word that means something completely different than the small word imbedded in it.
Let's try a few.
Cumquat
Poppycock
Pussyfooting
Pussycat
Crackerjack
Cracka . hmm that one isn't blocked... wonder why?
What about the Spanish word for the color black
Negro

Why does it matter if it is common or not? It is a term that was coined before this incident, by Nike nonetheless. Firing is unwarranted.
He wasn't describing an impromptu tennis match springing up in the street like in the ad.

For everyone's reference. This is the guy who said ****rdly.

That is hilarious. I had no idea it would get censored since by definition it has nothing to do with the word used in some circles to degrade blacks.

What is really racist here is the NYT. We all know gorillas charge you, that is a fact. Well Venus was charging the net when he said this, although he was meaning it as a 'guerilla'. But lets assume he was describing her charging the net like a gorilla, fast and powerfully, what is wrong with that? There is nothing wrong with using it like that, but the NYT is saying that Venus is close to a gorilla or looks like a gorilla since they are spinning it that way. Dude made no comment about her physical appearance, only her movement. The NYT is assuming other wise and being racist by assuming that he meant Venus looked like a gorilla, just because she is black.
I've heard the comment he made on the radio and nothing about it was racists. In fact that dude has used that term, 'guerrilla' to describe other tennis players before, so it isn't hist first time ever saying it. The NYTs and ESPN are pushing this racist agenda and divide. No surprise both are a fricking joke.
