To homework or not to homework is one debate.
But, if they are going to do it, shouldn't they be expected to do it correctly? WTF do you learn by not doing shite right and being allowed to cheat?

Do you honestly believe your child is retaining all that she learns in class without practice at home?
Why do you assume we don't practice at home?
And considering my daughter's school is routinely one of the top elementary schools in the state, I'd say what they are doing is absolutely working.
Assigned homework for kids is nothing but busy work that they just pencil whip as fast as possible.
Its utterly useless towards their development.

The real issue is they can no longer penalize the ones that don't do it, while the ones that do don't get credit. It should be a part of the overall grade, but then again the public school system isn't worried about properly educating those that want to learn, they're more interested in pandering to the lowest common denominator. It's all a ruse to have the schools appear to be successful when they're nothing more than day care centers. Most people w/ means send their kids to private school in Lafayette.

Why is it all of a sudden a problem in the last 10-15 years?
Because the parents and the kids are lazy snowflakes.

And you think that shite is going to stop with real work when they are adults?
It's called time management.
Does your company give you work that you have to perform outside of working hours?
I know mine doesn't. If they want me to work, it's during working hours. They don't say, "when you get off of work, I want you to perform these tasks."

Agreed, especially before middle school. An hour of playtime in the backyard is MUCH more beneficial for a third grader's development than an hour of learning the cursive alphabet.

Because as a former public school educator, the typical student is not going to do any work on their own. Most parents could not even begin to figure out where to find practice assignments of the class lessons.
And for the record, IF you are spending the time to ensure your child is practicing the class lesson at home, then guess what: that's called HOMEWORK.
But you're right, hundreds of years of the educational practice of HW is a waste of time...it does not teach responsibility, time management, or reinforcement of the learned lesson(s) at all..

One of many reasons my children will never step foot in the public school system.. my mother retired from Lafayette parish after 30 years 10 years ago to go to the private school sector and wishes she would have done way earlier. Glad I chose right away to got to the private school way.

If you have a job that doesn't require any work or effort outside of the standard working hours, then you are easily replaceable by someone else or soon enough-a computer.

My company gives me a paid for cell phone and laptop that grants access 24/7 around the clock because we are a global company.
I get paid well for it though.
College "Homework" is even worse. Especially for STEM.
What do I know though.

What if my job is to help people with computer systems?

Mine provides both of these as well. And it lets me work from home. It also doesn't make me work outside of "working hours". When I'm done working for the day, I turn off my computer and I don't think about work until I log back in the next day.

Right, I wouldn't know anything about STEM.

A bit more than that. I'm an IS consultant.

I work for a consulting firm and we only provide support for my clients between 7am-7pm. I have someone who covers from the time that I log off, until 7pm.
