And you think that shite is going to stop with real work when they are adults?

It's called time management.

I 100% agree with this but the homework they get needs to be done right.

It's not but they shouldn't have 3 hours of homework every night. They no longer get PE, recess is fading away, and they don't have time to go play after school. That's an important part of development as well as memorizing stuff. Kids need to be able to be kids and go play (away from screens), socialize, and burn off energy.

Here is a link from KATC.
LINK

This is one of the reasons our state ranks so low in education among the other things we also rank near the bottom of many other categories

Homework shouldn't be a thing.

I'm so glad my daughter's school doesn't assign homework.

I don't think I was graded on homework. If I remember correctly we got checked to make sure we did our homework, but If we got the questions wrong it was never counted against us. At least in math thats how it was. I think it varied by subject.

Not sure about the specifics on the spelling thing.

No more zeroes for cheating is pretty much telling kids its okay to cheat which is a terrible life lesson. It's like telling people it's okay to resist arrest and not expect any consequence.

Too many teachers think they need to blab on for the full class period instead of teaching then letting kids do an in-class assignment on what they just learned. Kids should not have to spend hours doing homework.

People complain about kids never going outside to play but you never hear anything about the teachers who make kids do hours of homework every night.

So we are going to treat a 5th grader like an adult? There is no sense in a student attending school for 8 hours a day and then having 3 to 4 hours of homework a night.

There's a fine line between hours of HW & idiot kids who can't handle the workload.

I taught remedial Algebra 1 for years, among a few other subjects. AT MOST I gave my students 10 algebra problems per night. Which were merely/usually the exact same problems we covered in class, but with different constants or variables to help practice the skill.
In a given class, MAYBE, 5 of 30 would do all 10 problems every single night. Knowing full well they were being graded purely on actual attempt & completion, not mathematical accuracy.

They NOR their parents cared until grades were released & then it was my or the school's fault for assigning so much grade percentage to the HW. Nevermind that the C, D, & F test grades...
Students are not magically going to realize that they need to practice their class lessons on their own in order to perform well on weekly assessments, quizzes, tests, & ultimately the standardized testing.

Taking away grades for HW, spelling, & cheating on tests is only going to drive more teachers OUT to private schools, out of state, or out of the profession altogether. Resulting in schools performing even lower than they already do.

The system of school all day + a few hours of HW has been the norm for hundreds of years of education.

Why is it all of a sudden a problem in the last 10-15 years?
