Hey, Baw. You had elec. blink back on when this pig was coming at you. You got in this thread and asked for an update. I told you it was going to Avon Park. Not long after I went to bed and this big sumbitch moved down to a half-mile from your house.
Not trying to purposefully mislead you. How did it come out for you?

I’ve got a friend In Wilmington. Please keep me updated.
I’ve got a friend in Lakeland, LF as well. His family and house made it out okay.
This hurricane is going after all my Kentucky people that have moved away.

I just read a news article on Ian that had comments at the end. someone was crying that Ian was still getting attention, and that SW FL should continue to be the focus. Well, I watch the news a lot, and almost every scrap of it is on FL.
Just remember up there in the Carolinas, a cat 1 is not shite, until it is your house, truck, or family getting a tree falling on it/them.
Y'all stay safe.

I'm guessing we can't start making repairs until we engage the insurance company, right? Sucks because we this place rented out for a while and will lose a lot of revenue

You can makes repairs to mitigate further damage. Take pics/videos of everything before and after because IT will matter down the road. First hand experience with this after Ida last year.

This shite always aggravates me. Everyone wants the focus on them when it comes to media coverage. Other people have shite going on and just because the news isnt at your house it doesnt mean people arent working to help you.

I'm sure someone else can back me up (or make me look dumb) but I would think insurance would cover that loss of rent revenue since it is "business interruption".
You can make some repairs. Like others said, document everything with a spreadsheet backed up with pics/video. The outside stuff you can start doing like clean up and debris removal, repairing fences, etc. If you are able to, you can also start getting contractor estimates for repairs and turn that in with the claim to get the ball rolling.

Make sure you date stamp the before and after photos. My uncle had a tree fall during Olga in 2019 that crushed an outbuilding and damaged his tractor. His shitty insurance company tried to say the tree fell before the storm.

That’s a big-arse wind field. I hope Ian dies a painful death once he makes landfall.

Went back to sleep and woke up just now. Either were in a lull, or it's already passed us by.

No worries. My house didn’t have any damage and we had power until it went off during the night. We’re running a generator now.
Most of our town doesn’t have power either. I did see crews out working yesterday. Duke Energy is supposed to let us know later today when to expect power to be restored. There are a lot of oak and pine trees down and some places are flooded (but not as many as with Irma).
I don’t know why we lost power almost a full day after the storm.

I did not think it has even come into NC yet except for some outer bands of rain. Has it even made landfall yet in SC? I thought still off the coast. I am in the Triangle and we have been getting rain for a few hours now and the wind is starting to pick up with some stronger gust. But most of the wind is supposed to come in later this afternoon and tonight with winds hitting around 50. I would not be worried but I live on a ridge and trees fall during big storms.

I have home insurance through Safepoint who is based in Tampa. Should I be worried that they'll go insolvent from this?

I read through your posts about people asking to stay in your rentals last night, and I read through the horror stories other people shared about squatters. I know you have a lot on your mind starting claims now, but I hope my message won’t get lost here. It bothered me enough to seek out the thread again this morning.
Please don’t let a few horror stories prevent you from helping someone. I know there are shitty people, and I’m not saying just turn it over to the first random person with a sad story. But for every person who will do something terrible, there are plenty more just trying to survive with a hand up. It’s not a bad idea to offer it to someone you may know (friend of a friend or somehow mutual). But please don’t let it sit empty out of squatter worry.
My parents’ house was unlivable after Rita. Out of options, they’d resigned themselves to living in a hotel for six months to a year. They were sending my sister to live with an aunt and uncle. Luckily I was already out of the house. But someone heard they needed a place. House belonged to an older man but he was living with a girlfriend. His grandson had been staying at his house, but the grandson bunked with some friends so my family could stay together. This man did not know my family, it was a through the grapevine, friend of a friend situation. They gladly paid him rent with insurance ALE money. Six months later their house wasn’t ready, but the man’s girlfriend decided she wanted to renovate hers so they needed to move back to his. Not ideal, but at least they had a roof, so they just went back home sooner.
After Laura, my own family was desperately seeking an option. We had three young kids. Until we could go back home, we lived in a friend’s vacant house that was up for sale. We shuffled in and out to accommodate showings, and she never batted an eye. Had it sold before we could move out, we would have made other arrangements. I don’t think I’ll ever stop being grateful to her for that.
