I’m not a weather man but it’s my understanding that’s it’s that cold front that kept Ian from barreling down on us (I’m in Pensacola)

LINK

Above is a link to the National Weather Service. Enter your zip code for customize my weather (green box) and submit. Once you do that click on detailed forecast next to the temperature. Once that page loads scroll to the bottom where you’ll find line graphs. Click on the graph. Select what you want to see and submit. You will see timelines for surface wind speed, rain, etc.

Brother-in-law is I assisted living in Citrus County and they contacted us Monday to say they were evacuating everyone Tuesday to another facility in Orlando. If they did, they’ve put themselves in a big mess.

Hopefully you guys don't have to deal with what we did here with an aging power grid that took 6 weeks to get power back to the majority.

Of course that didn't matter because Delta came 6 weeks later and we had another two weeks of no power for many.

There were places here that were on a temporary grid for two years while the main one was rebuilt. It was a small co-op in swamp areas but their system was wrecked.

Entergy almost ran out of power poles and components due to supply chain issues.

By the time they had to rebuild for Ida components across the country were scarce from the 2020 season and the ice storm.

Hopefully that has changed.

Jim Cantore is in Punta Gorda. I'm surprised because he used to go to ground zero but after he got slammed in Gulfport during Katrina he made a business decision to go close but not right at landfall anymore. I wonder if he moves before landfall. He was in Lake Charles for Laura but he was safe inside of a monolithic casino.

What’s nuts is that I’m watching a nearly Cat 5 hurricane about to make landfall in Florida and where I am in Alabama it’s 40 degrees this morning.

Have to imagine that if it had continued up towards the Big Bend the cold front would’ve torn it to pieces over open water.

That southeastern track meant its gonna hit a lot of people and was able to strengthen the entire way from Cuba to landfall.

Katrina taught a lot of people a lot of lessons, including the power guys. The response with Ida was far superior. I hope Florida will be the same.

Eye is due west of us now. Winds are strong with bands of heavy rain. Still have power and internet but I doubt that holds.

Storm surge is supposed to be late evening for us and our high tide is at 3 pm which works in our favor.

Apparently we have great windows because there’s not much noise inside the house.

Pro tip and if you ever evecuate and only bring one vehicle bring the others to a casino parking garage and park in a corner area with a wall. We did that to two of our vehicles and no flooding, hail damage or scratches from debris

Sending prayers to all of those in the path. If you need help let the board know. Our ability to get help to someone even from this message board can’t be underestimated

The response is great these days but there was a national concern about grid components at one time. Yards were emptied to rebuild Louisiana and TX grid.

Jeff was a bitch during Laura. He lost any remaining Harvey blue shed cred he still had.

Places around Ft. Myers and Cape Coral have a lot of canals. A very intricate canal system. Surge is going to get into everyone of those canals. It’s going to be catastrophic, I fear.
