Just FYI and SIAP but this website has some really solid satellite images.
I believe it updates the image every 30 seconds, or when you animate it goes forward 30 seconds a frame. Some pretty amazing images. Especially when the sun is up.

I’m not familiar with the topography right there at Punta Gorda, but with I75 forecast to catch 12-16’ of storm surge I hope the road doesn’t wash out like I10 has a couple times.
That will be a key route for getting storm relief in after the storm passes.
Hate every bit of this for everyone in S FL.

you can also see that effects from the upper level trough have moved that steering ridge to the NE shift a little further east as well. am I wrong in reading this as meaning a decent eye structure or at least a strong center while the storm moves through central to the atlantic coast?
lower levels still showing the same semblance of core structure well inland

Checking in from Sarasota. Rained all night (got up a few times to look outside) and wind is really picking up now. I haven’t read all the posts I missed overnight so forgive if I’m just repeating others, but Phillips just posted on his FB sustained winds now at 155mph and tracking NNE. No bueno for our area.
Hug your dog, and stay safe.

Any tips on getting your dog to shite in hurricanes? We just had a window so she shite this morning but we might not get another break for a while. I'm in southwest Polk

TWC about 5 pages behind TD, as usual.

I wonder if he’s cat 5 yet. Got to be right there.

Local meteorologist here just said he thinks the track is slightly south of Tampa. Between Tampa and Naples

Bingo

What’s nuts is that I’m watching a nearly Cat 5 hurricane about to make landfall in Florida and where I am in Alabama it’s 40 degrees this morning.

We are going to see if the building codes since Andrew hold up.

It may peak there, but the current core structure is less impressive than it was on radar/satellite even just an hour ago.

Just for perspective on how physically big Ian is,
Some comparisons on wind field sizes:
Ian
Hurricane winds = 40 miles from center
Tropical storm winds = 175 miles from center
Michael
Hurricane winds = 45 miles from center
Tropical storm winds = 175 miles from center
Laura
Hurricane winds = 60 miles from center
Tropical storm winds = 205 miles from center
Ida
Hurricane winds = 50 miles from center
Tropical storm winds = 150 miles from center

Not sure you want to die on this hill.

180 miles. That's like saying somewhere between New Orleans and Lake Charles.
