I work with a woman who said she doesn’t understand how to read a weather radar.

How dumb do you have to be to not be able to understand what you’re looking at when you see the weather radar on TV? Fricking pathetic, but I can’t say I’m surprised with how dumb the average American is these days.

Man, I dont know about that, but on this same note it aggravates me when people blindly look at a forecast that says 70% and uses that as the end all instead of simply looking at a radar and seeing if its about to rain.

This drives me nuts as well. Very stupid

This woman I’m talking about does that because she doesn’t understand what the radar is saying.

A lot of people look at basic weather apps that say there’s going to be a 73% chance of rain at 3:00 PM and take it as gospel. The truth is, most weather apps use generic model data and a computer spits out a random number. There’s no human input or knowledge applied. I stick with the National Weather Service and trusted local meteorologists.

I mean it's just colors, right? green means rain, yellow storms, red heavy storms??? Then find your house or location and check the color at that location?

Gotta be pretty dense to miss that one.

She must be married to the dumbass that was at our community pool this evening. There was lightning all around so the lifeguard blew his whistle to get everyone out of the pool.

A dad goes and tells the lifeguard ‘it’s just heat lightning’

Maybe she doesn’t know how to play it, or the map, where the rain will be, and the time it will be there is just more than she can process at once.

The “70% and it’s over” crowd drives me nuts. It’s the same people that need cable tv so they can get local channels. I’m convinced it’s because they show the next 7 days of weather/rain percentage. It’s mostly boomers.

Lol. This is one of the biggest myths that people believe in modern society. I’m amazed by the number of people who think “heat lighting” is a real thing.

I used to work with a grown man older than me who couldn’t read a map. I was honestly impressed that he was like 50 and had never read one in his life. He was absolutely helpless.

Sounds to me like she wanted you to use your pointer and show her how to read her map.

You’re just as clueless as you think she is, OP.

A frighteningly large percentage of people are incapable of picking out the county in which they live on a map of their state. Even if they could adequately read a weather radar, what they see would be of no use to them.
