Why do upper class whites not wave the rebel flag bot low income white do?

Because the rebel flag is an easy way to immediately identify the worst people among us.

It really took on a completely different meaning over time. You had a minority, the racist kkk types, that tried to make it a symbol of hate. Over time, it also evolved into a symbol of pride and Southern culture for some.

For others it became a outlaw symbol of rebellion against the "man" mainly in hot rod and biker culture.

But why is it that I see the flag waving in poorer, or lower income areas but never in higher income areas?

It isn’t out of the question to see the 1st National Confederate or Bonnie Blue flags being flown in upper crust areas.

There were many flags associated with secession and the Confederacy and they can normally be flown without any comments because most people are too ignorant to understand what they are seeing.

My personal favorite is the 2nd National or Jackson flag:

it might be a symbol that has been adopted by racists but that hardly makes them the worst people among us. Give me a racist that doesn't break the law over a saggy pants murderer all day every day

Do upper middle class, or upper class whites not share the same sentiment about the flag

If we are being honest states didn't start adding it to state flags during 50s.

I don't have a problem with it being used in an historical sense aka all the flags flown over this city or state. I would never hang it in my garage because most people seeing it would get a message I am not interested in sending.

Also I am from Louisiana not the south.

No loyalty to the rebel flag and if Whit liberals are confidence minorities don't like it take it down is fine not worth a fight.

I do fear how quickly we hide history vs using it as a conversation starter

Poors cling to the past.
The wealthy look at the now and future.
Eyes forward vs. eyes backwards.

The rebel flag when used accurately, shows a pride and heritage for the south that we won’t just roll over and let Yankees say what’s good for us. Unfortunately, 90% of the time you see the rebel flag in the south, the person sporting it is prejudice at the least. It’s a symbol that disturbs a lot of African Americans and people that wear it, show it, fly it, are aware of that and are doing it for provocative purposes only.

I like others, are very proud of the south. I’m proud of our heritage, our people, our food and our outlook on life. It’s called being a good person and your actions should show that, not a flag.

Every sunday morning moms played gospel which had a lot of Aretha Franklin. Mary Don't you Weep, Precious Lord, Never Grow Old etc... It also meant that it was time to clean. So Aretha.

Do you think racism is the ultimate thought crime? Because he said they are the worst people amongst us and I'd argue differently.

Something I quickly noticed when I got here. There's pride about being a Southerner. I love it. I don't think Northern pride exists.

Why is this a question only black people would know?

Seriously, I grew up listening to all 3, especially Aretha and Diana.
