Good, because most of the "little guys" are full of shite with their claims. Get a governor who isn't a slip and fall guy and better reforms might pass.

Did those lower loss costs result in lower premiums? Nope. Just higher profits for insurance companies.

Look how many damn commercials they run. I swear every other commercial is one of these stupid insurance commercials. And this is for a product we are required by law to buy.

You get the Rogers rate!

Wow, cool, now I want to see the rate from a company that doesn't have $50 million payments to Rogers and Mahomes juiced into the price.

Hell, can't you find some other dirtbag who is cheaper? Nic Cage seems to be perpetually broke and willing to do anything in front of a camera for a buck. Maybe you can get him to shill your product for scale wages.

Tort reform was a sham, it never promised significantly lower rates. Now it just makes it harder for you to recover as much as you would have previously, if you ever are injured in an accident.
Therefore, it really only benefited the insurance companies.

The real issue in this state is the $15k minimum coverage being way too low and the number of drivers driving without coverage at all.

Why don’t you shop your rate around?

Mine went down $150 a year for the first time in my entire life. Now so I believe it is due to tort reform, absolutely not. Did tort reform need to happen, absolutely yes.

Insurance doesn't go down unless you take a vehicle off of the policy.

It's the only business I know of where someones coverage can be canceled after years of premium payments with no claims.

Here is what people are missing.

Insurance companies do not lose money.
If they lose money in 2021, they charge more in 2022 and offset losses.

The best thing for insurance profits are large claim payouts. It justifies rate increases. And builds a profit ratio over a larger base.

That is why ACA sucks but health insurance companies are recording record profits.
That is why oil/gas companies have great profits when the cost of a barrel is at an all time high.

The worst thing for insurance net profits are safer cars, safer drivers, and litigation payouts only covering tangible losses.

You see 1 out of 3 commercials on tv advertising insurance because the rates have to be low and competitive or the company's revenue will shrink.

If you dont see tort reform as a good thing for insurance consumers, then you are angry at big business and you cant see straight.
If you are smart, your legislators will call that step 1 and push for more reform. Legislation is often a slow process. Take the small wins and keep pushing forward.

And if you dont like what you are paying, switch to someone lower. That is market economics. Vote with your wallet.

Whatever the ultimate affect of the "reform" law may be, the claims which will be addressed by the law are those occurring after 1/1/21, meaning that most of those suits are just now beginning to be filed. The impact of the law on lawsuits (and by extension insurer competition and premiums) likely won't be appreciable for several years.

The notion that there would be some sort of overnight change simply by putting something down on paper is nonsense propagated by ambulance chasers upon a low information audience. There is a reason most PI attorney advertising is focused on weekday, daytime TV.

There is Louisiana's way of doing things and then there is the other 49 states. How is that working out? When you can cross over into Texas or Mississippi and drop your premiums by up to 75%, what is our excuse? Do we get in more accidents? No. Are our bodies more fragile? No. Or has our uneducated, poor and unhealthy state decided to make litigation one of the biggest industries in Louisiana at the expense of nearly all others? Plaintiff attorneys are like celebrities here in the same vein as neighborhood mobsters. Flashy, faux philanthropic scumbags who wave money in front of your face, and yet they are bankrupting you at the same time in the form increased costs of doing business, procuring insurance and the overall costs of goods and services. Deep down everyone knows it, but for whatever reason its still accepted.

Quiet. The attorneys are working hard in this thread to convince people there should have been 25% reductions in premiums already and tort reform is bad.

So citizens gave up their rights just to increase the insurance company’s profits. Wonderful.

Precisely. The legislature should have put a revision in the tort reform bill freezing or requiring lowering of rates equal to what lobbyists proposed they would be. That would have required some forethought, though.
