We got married a month after 9/11 when tensions were still very high in airports.
Someone had slipped my wife’s grandmother’s antique cake knife into her backpack by mistake after it was used for cutting the cake.
I made it through security and was looking to see which way our gate was when I realized my wife wasn’t by me.
I turned around to see her with her hands up.
Fortunately the TSA agent had a good head on her shoulders and let us go back out, find something to do with the knife (someone came and picked it up) and then we went back through without incident.

You wouldn’t have been arrested anyway. Even if it was a pocketknife, they’d just tell you it’s not allowed on the plane.
Don’t try this with a gun.

My dad had a shaving bag he took on trips and apparently to the hunting camp.
TSA found one 22 long rifle cartridge in the bottom of it a few years back and you would have thought they had captured Ayatollah Khomeini.
Took about four hours to him out

I made a round trip with a Swiss army knife in my bag that I didn't realize was there until I was back home unpacking.

My husband had a mini crowbar in his backpack that he forgot about. We were running late and at that moment the TSA agent at IAH decided to research the legality of whether he had to confiscate or not. Ten minutes later we were ready to leave it there and run to our gate when he finally said my husband could keep it but not take it out of his backpack on the plane.

I had a chef knife in my carry on one time. Totally forgot about it. Didn't get stopped.

My friend forgot his Kershaw Cinder
that he uses as a box opener in his backpack. TSA were insanely antagonizing, when they pulled it out he didn't even give them a hard time and asked for it to be tossed. honest mistake.
45 minutes later, he got to go. Ever since then and almost missing a flight, I've checked my bag thoroughly.

The avg IQ of a TSA agent has to be in the mid-50s.
Props for creating jobs for the unemployable, I guess.

I flew out of Denver a few years ago and they went through my entire carryon and found a big blunt.
I couldn’t believe I had left it in there. I could feel myself starting to sweat.
She put it back and sent me through.

Flew for 20 years with a full sized tube of toothpaste with no problem, until earlier this year.

I accidentally left a box cutter in my bag and it made it through multiple flights. You’d think after 9/11 that’s one they’d pay attention to.
Let’s be honest, have you paid attention to the average TSA worker at the airport? Not exactly our best and brightest.

As long as you’re not carrying large sums of cash, you’ll get through with no issues.
