99% of my rides are around a lake that is either a 15 mph speed limit (slower than my average speed) or off limits to motor vehicles.

I just think how hard yall melt about something that may happen once or twice and year and costs you, on average, less than 30 seconds is hilarious

Everyone of them thinks they are Greg Lemond or Miguel Induran.

Why are you taking this so personally then? Sounds like you do it the right way, stop signs and all

I’m not, I actually see people cycling almost every single day. I pass them when I can, or stay behind them if I can’t, which may cost me 30 seconds. Not a big deal.

But Eric from central saw one dude on a back and acts like it’s some huge problem

Cyclists have long ridden on my road, typically on weekend mornings, and I’m amazed they survive. The road has a 45 mph speed limit and drivers normally ignore that and do 55-60. The road also has numerous blind curves and hills. There’s also a ton of dump truck traffic from numerous dirt pits and those fellas can’t slow down that quick. The bike riders are either oblivious, or just have a death wish. What makes them assholes in my opinion, is that they refuse to wave.

That would make sense if you hadn’t had 20 posts in here calling everyone fat, stupid, butthurt, bitter, etc

I mean I know why you’re doing it but it would be cool if you would admit it

You would think. But the last two people I know that got severely injured, one was hit by a truck in Bentonville, AR and the other in Utah. Both were on heavily traveled bike routes.

Someone mentioned mirrors. A lot of cyclists use radar now. I won’t ride a public road without it. And I wave at each and every car I see, if only just to make sure they see me.

I live in Baton Rouge and run MANY errands on my bicycle. I also commuted to work for 30 years.

ANYONE in this thread complaining about bicyclists not obeying the rules of the road who also:

1. Ever travels below 45 mph on the interstate.
2. Ever travels above the posted speed limit.
3. Ever rolls through a stop sign without coming to a complete stop.
4. Ever neglects to come to a complete stop before turning right on red

...needs to shut the frick up about cyclists not obeying all the rules of the road.

And by the way, posted speed limits are UPPER limits, NOT lower limits.

And for the cyclists out there, in Louisiana (at least) it is unlawful to obstruct traffic. If you have 3 or moire cars backed up behind you, you are obstructing traffic and must pull over to allow them to pass you. You can't just ride down the middle of the lane no matter what.

And yes, I ride through red lights, and stop signs, and I also bump up on the sidewalk on occasion (against the law) in order to allow traffic to pass in the street.

These are super cool. I need to get one if I plan on going off my usual routes.

All road cyclists don’t follow traffic laws. ALL OF THEM. Run red lights, run stop signs, don’t yield, don’t signal, etc. I hate them and they cause dangerous driving conditions.

Several of my juniors have radars and they seem to work well. My only worry is it drops their situational awareness, which could hurt them in a peloton. I am an old man yelling at clouds though, because I keep saying Zwift is building generations of Cat 1/2 legs and lungs with Cat 5 bike handling abilities. I am right, but nobody listens.

It doesn't matter if they can or can't/don't.

I used to ride a motorcycle every day. I learned quickly that I was, in fact, invisible to everyone. People would look me square in the eye and just pull out right in front of me.

So I learned to ride like no one can ever see me. Same on my bicycle. I'm responsible for my safety at all times, I never depend on anyone else.

There’s a reason for that. The brain assumes if they don’t see a car it’s clear. Americans aren’t used to a lot bikes on the road unlike Europe/Asia.

This is also why it’s dangerous to drive at night with one headlight. Brain is looking for two.

I’m new to all of this, but it allows me to concentrate on maintaining proper spacing in the draft and looking for/at cyclists around me rather than constantly looking back over my shoulder for cars. I would have had a much harder time picking up road cycling were it not for rear radar.

I learned this the first time a lady clearly saw me approaching a stop sign (so I thought) and appeared to wave me through, then pulled out and almost hit me. I guess she was Italian and talking on the phone.

Probably all true. Makes total sense.
