that's terrible. You can see the fear and confusion in the kid's eyes.

What's funny is the guy the mistakenly tried to serve the warrant to at the same location just got back from his parole officer from drug charges...

Holy shite, does anyone on that street not have a fricking conviction???

The kid did act funny, but I'd say the cops fricked up and then blatantly lied about asking for his ID.

Hope these charges get dropped and the kid stays straight.

I've decided to stop responding to an idiot who thinks a kid deserves to be detained and potentially tased over saying "ummm"

it's one of the most idiotic responses I've read on the OT, which is saying A LOT. Especially since LNCHBOX is ITT.

yeah buddy. i don't ra hardly ever a-hole. when cops ask an invidual 6 times to get out of the car, i think its wise to get out of car. non-compliance leads to more trouble. but hey, lets all make this a race issue.

Is there anything you can do besides insult me just because I don't share an opinion of yours? Is it possible to not have to call names?

I was waiting for this to show up here. Why didn't he just answer who he was instead of being immediately hostile to the police? And then he tries slamming the door? Just stupid. Kid brought it on himself. bring on the downvotes, but it's the truth.
I'm wondering why your post put it all on the kid, and not one iota of blame to the cops?

You can argue Patrick could have handled it better, I certainly won't disagree. But this is 100% on the cops, and it's pretty pathetic that he's getting charged with anything.

The officers lied, he answered their question, they ignored him. Even if he could have handled it better, this is all on the officers for not properly ID'ing him, even after he said his name was something other than the guy they were looking for.

I'd assume their should be discipline coming down for the cops, as I highly doubt they followed protocol not even attempting to ID who they're arresting.

no, he didn't. He told them his name was patrick. And take a wild guess what his name was? I'll even make it multiple choice for you.

A) Patrick
B)Michael
C)Les Miles
D)All the above

This is part of the problem. There is a feedback loop wherein most encounters between cops and young black men are negative (not entirely the fault of either side), therefore, this leads to more negative encounters between cops and young black men.

It doesn't make this incident right, but it's not, pardon the (ETA, double pun, actually) pun, purely black and white, either.

He goes "ummmmm....... patrick?" Not exactly confidence inspiring.

By the way. I have had a police officer call my cell phone once and ask who I was. I had not done anything wrong, and I still get nervous and confused and I was hesitant to respond.. I said only my first name in the exact same way.. and any ways it ended up being the police officer dialed the wrong number..

People think just because you get nervous around police that you obviously have done something wrong.. No.. You can be completely confused at what is going on.

the cop has to tell them why or at least have a cause

a cop cannot just walk up to you on your property and order you out of your car

What's your name?

Get out of the car and put your hands behind your back.

TASE HIM!

Yeah I'm on team white people like 99.9999% of the time... but even I think the black dude got fricked over in this situation.

Sounded more like he was asking. When you look very much like a guy that lives at the house that they are looking for, you need to do better than that.
