i dislike cops as much as anyone but damn man the kid doesnt help himself by saying ummmmm....patrick. This is part of where dressing the part, speaking well, and being presentable is in your best interest as a human being. All he had to do was say no sir, Im patrick here is my ID and this was over.

Obviously it was his right to question the when and why but this could have all been stopped and all could have had a good laugh and they would have found the real guy

but he's imagine police showing up to arrest you and you have no idea what the hell is even going on

they wanted him to get out the car to arrest him for something he has absolutely nothing to do with.

that's awful

compliance. resisting benefits nothing. he failed to comply 5 times and was being threatened to get tasered over and over.

then get his identification. You certainly don't immediately tr to arrest him. This is 2016 and there are numerous ways to verify someone's identity. And you absolutely don't tase him.

I don't think they were going out looking to do that. They did however handle themselves terribly. He said Patrick the second time, and then they just say we need to see some ID and that should be the end of it.

I also don't think he was trying to not comply but was just freaked out being on probation and having three cops roll up on him. I got kind of nervous / hesitant one time when a cop stopped in front of my yard and walked up on me - he just wanted to ask about my dog I was playing.

So why be hostile? Seems like that would have the opposite effect.

what? cops walk into your yard and start asking questions and not telling you anything...I'd be hostile too

Idk, taser was drawn, he started resisting, tried slamming the door, then he got tased. He had an opportunity to not get tased. Get out of the car.

I have never not gotten out of the car when asked. I have never been tased.

Seems logical to me.

If you are asked to get out of your vehicle next time you roll through a check point, see what happens when you don't comply.

You are so full of shite. You'd answer their questions just like any normal person would.

So that gives him the right to slam the door on them and then act like a victim when he gets tased? I don't think so.

That was still shitty police work.

They don't always have to come in as assholes..

They need to verify who they are arresting.. they didn't even give him a chance.

He has no idea what the hell is going on. He's confused.

Why didn't they state, we are here to arrest a person on a warrant. Do not run or make any moves.. say who they are looking for.. he denies it him.. then work with him and say well let's verify who you are.. but if you do resist or run we will be forced to taze you.

they wanted to just arrest this man because they thought he was someone else.. at least give him a chance without being an a-hole.. and explain the situation better to him.

he has a right to know what the heck he is being arrested for and for them to verify they have the right person, no?

The cop was a douche but Pat didnt comply and made himself look suspicious. Throw the charges out and be done with it. Slap on the wrist for the cop who didnt ask for ID. Everybody learns a lesson.

and they had every opportunity to find out who this kid was before attempting to arrest him

how about say, "ok if youi're Patrick, we need to see some ID."

Just because the kid freaked out doesn't absolve them from their mistakes. Some of you want to give cops a pass on everything. It's amazing to me.

He wasn't arrested for doing nothing wrong. Had he not been hostile and answered questions clearly none of this happens.

you ever not obey a cop's direct orders to "get out of the car" when asked to?
