Trying to hold back at work reading this thread. Had to put my 14 year old beagle down in January...similar situation. Very tough thing to do, my condolences.

Sorry to hear it, prayers sent
For the guys who have had to do this before, what did you do with the dog after. I grew up in the country and we would dig a grave for our dogs. What do you do if you live in the city? Does the vet take care of it? (Sorry this is a little rough)

I feel for you. I have a 13 year old lab that's sweet as can be but starting to go downhill and we're dreading the day we have to do this. He still tries to play with our 7 year old lab but he wears down fast.

I put my best frend down after 17 years. It's been awhile, but I still can tear up about him. He was the fuc*ing best!
Very very sorry.

Ours was cremated. Took a few weeks, but her ashes were delivered back to the vet in a nice little wooden box.

Sorry you had to go through that. I know how painful it is. You will always have good memories to look back on.

I have saved this poem and will keep it in mind until the day I have to deal with this a few years from now. It got dusty in my office. I'm gonna have to talk to the cleaning people about this.
Sorry for your loss fnchdrms87

Damn. Im sitting at my desk tearing up. I've had to do this twice in the past year. Hardest thing I've ever done. I have a new little buddy now that I can't imagine letting go. I will have to take time off work when it is his time to go. Stay strong man. You did the right thing. Your dog will always love you

It is a kindness you do to me.
powerful words right there.
I stayed with mine until the bitter end. This passage brought tears to my eyes.
Cheers to the OP. I'm sure you gave the dog a great life.

So sorry. We had to send an 18 year old dog to the Rainbow Bridge Saturday morning. She was with is for 13 years. Her name was Molly. Over the course of a week she became unable to stand. Last Friday we came home from the grocery to find her sprawled out near her water bowl. She was thirsty and I don't think she was abLE to get close enough to drink. Very sad to have to put her down, but better than harm that could come to her when alone at home. My sweet Molly.

Sorry to hear this man. It's really tough. Had to do it in the fall and almost had to do it last week

Went through this a couple weeks ago with my 6 year old lab who had cancer. It was no different than losing a family member for me. Still hard for me to see all the little reminders of her everywhere. Saying a prayer for you guys.

So sorry for your loss. I know it was hard to do. You did the right thing because she was suffering.

Already dread The day I have to do this to my two year old lab. She is the best dog and don't know if I will ever have another one like her, she is just like a furry human baby.

Really sorry about this... Its an incredibly hard decision to make but one you have to to end your dogs suffering. My dog is only 5 and hope I never have to make this decision about him. Just thinking about it makes my throat well up..Just remember all the goods years with her.
