Even better is get your kids off of them and not give them pocket computers with access to the entire world at young ages. You’d be amazed at how much yours and their lives will improve as well as society’s.
I mean i had a desktop running 98 growing up with the net and I came up fine.
And the clearnet was all kinds of more fricked up back then than now.

Social media was fun for about a year or two after it started. After that, it was all attention whoring / virtue signaling bullshite.
OP is right. It is very toxic and the world would be a better place without it.

*Facebook and twitter.
Social media existed well before that. Myspace literally was just a bastion of shitposting and early html coding. And that lasted almost a decade.

I agree... stop watching the news too, particularly the national news - but local is just as bad. I'm tired of turning it on just to see where someone who lives in a shitty part of town got shot. It's depressing.

Fair enough. I was mostly referring to facebook. Myspace, looking back on it, was still way better than what Facebook is today.

Add “quit watching the news” to the list
I’ve never deleted my SM but it’s too easy to just browse over stuff you don’t want to read or look at.

I already did. Haven’t watched news since November.
Only social media I use is IG, but I talk to actual people on there.

Man. I'm with you.
I stopped watching regular TV. I read the wsj often a few days late.
I only post about local city issue on Facebook.
I started hiking and it's my new thing. I like just walking and being alone with my thoughts. It's great.
I went on a trip and left my phone in airplane mode for three days.
I think next time the wife snaps at me, I'm going to implode the family and buy a van and travel and just retire early.

Totally agree. I take a 2-3 month hiatus from all social media once or twice a year and it helps keeps things in perspective when I am back on the platforms.
You can also tailor your social media feeds as to not include so much of the toxicity. I try to keep my feeds to either family and friends that don't post much politics, or non-political things that I'm interested in.

All I use is Twitter. And I don't get into arguments with idiots. I have it because I like all the information that comes across my feed about passions of mine. I really do avoid all the political nonsense.

I'm currently deactive on FB. I'll get on and off of it every now and then mainly for to post some stuff to my company's page and check out my favorite groups.
Still addicted to the gram though.

The toxicity of social media isn’t even the worst problem. Smart phones and their apps are designed to be as addictive as possible. They’re a total time sink and get in between people who could have more meaningful relationships
This is very well said and a great point. I’m pretty good at not being on phone around kids much, but yea TD can be addicting. I’m kind of hooked on a civil war game on laptop. Have very few apps on phone.

Hell, my wife and I were in the middle of a good conversation once our kids went to bed last night and it died once our phones came out. We were just sitting there on the couch in silence with led screens in our faces. It’s sad
My wife (no pics) is addicted to Netflix and Hulu. She’s not much on social media but gets into a movie or series and it’s all over. One Saturday and one Sunday a month I go no internet at all, I’ll check phone for calls or texts and that’s it. Can’t get wife to do the same. Don’t get me wrong, she’s not All DAY on laptop, especially at night she puts it down and does stuff with kids, she’s just not very outdoorsy whereas kids and I are.

Same here. Every news organization picks and chooses what to report, and how they want you to react. I would rather be uninformed than misinformed.

Social media in mainstream forms Facebook/Instagram/Twitter etc is bad for your mental health and perception of reality. I do not miss at all.
I had to ditch due to the excessive amount of thots trying to get another night with fat boy.
I'm a one lady man these days, and didn't need the temptations.

I don't do social media or MSM and I truly think I am happier and less stressed from it. Unfortunately my main outlet of Reddit is becoming more and more diluted with the bullshite too and diminishing in quality as a result

Agree. And stay off the political board.
Posted on 4/13/21 at 11:19 am to Riolobo
The political board is hilarious to me. I can't even take it seriously enough to get worked up, and actually enjoy the occasional look at how some people think
Posted on 4/13/21 at 11:19 am to internetdad
OT and TD included. Place is miserable.

I totally agree 100%!!!!
